You might as well throw Avacyn, Angel of Hope in there, seeing as you'll want fliers. Baneslayer Angel and Blinding Angel are two others you might want to consider. Also, is 24 lands enough? This is a commander deck, and they usually run 35-37 lands. Azorius Cluestone seems to be a weird choice, seeing as you already have the signet in there already.

Linvala, Keeper of Silence is 50 bucks, but she's crazy good, as well as Iona, Shield of Emeria . Iona's 9 mana, but if your deck can get there, she's really good. Quicksilver Amulet can help with getting your creatures out quickly, but you're not as aggro-y and don't have as high of CMC as my decks that run it.

Anyways have fun with this deck, I love flyers.

I had not thought about the amulet, probably find a spot. Avacyn would be great, I'm actually looking for her, and I had no idea about Blinding Angel . Great against aggro, it will find a spot. No iona is actually a play group call. I actually have 34 lands, which seems to be enough, no screw yet. Thanks so much!

Oh lol I must've read the amount of lands wrong.

Yeah, Iona's kinda mean. Probably a good call.

No Telepathy ? It basically gives you an easy flier every turn, though it may paint a target on you.

I dunno about it. I know it works, but it does nothing else. What would you suggest taking out for it?

I know double strike is great, but Ghostblade Eidolon is very expensive. If you want to stay with double strike in that slot, go for Silverblade Paladin . Otherwise, Telepathy can come in.

How do you name a card in EDH? You have just about a one in one hundred chance of being right?

November 7, 2014 9:47 p.m.

cosmokai2000 says... #8

Between tutors, bounce effects, and stuff like Thoughtseize, it isn't as hard as it sounds. Plus, it's a solid guess to name one of the basics that would be in the deck

Derp.. I need to review the deck, and not critique when I'm half asleep. Look every blue card starting with "ther" they usually deal with sending crap back to their owners hand. If you want to drop a phat dollar on a card, there's the almighty Cryptic Command. There's also Celestial Colonnade. If I think of more, I'll be sure to let you know. Heck, why not include Isperia, Supreme Judge?

November 7, 2014 10:02 p.m.

Grr. *look up blue cards starting with "aether", they usually deal with bouncing.

Celestial Colonnade is actually in the deck. Isperia, Supreme Judge was actually in the list to start with, she just underperformed. Also, I was finding that I was almost always wanting to search up other cards. I would love to put Cryptic Command in, but that's largely a budget issue. Eventually ahaa. Thanks for the suggestions!

Possibly add Medomai the Ageless for extra turns?

December 14, 2014 11:44 p.m.

Grimore says... #13

Also Sphinx of Magosi for more repeatable draw?

December 14, 2014 11:53 p.m.

Grimore says... #14

Or Mulldrifter. Sorry for the excessive amount of comments. Ideas just keep popping up as I play the deck.

cosmokai2000 says... #15

What would you suggest swapping for Sphinx of Magosi or Medomai the Ageless?

I'd remove Jace Beleren and Yosei, the Morning Star. I feel Jace Beleren gives to much card advantage to opponents, while you don't have enough ways to trigger Yosei, the Morning Star's ability.

cosmokai2000 says... #17

I was actually thinking about Jace Beleren. Yosei is actually really useful at tapping down problem permanents and has proven plenty of use

cosmokai2000 says... #18

I don't if I should swap Jace Beleren for Sphinx of Magosi. Jace is cheaper to play and has no activation cost, but isn't fetchable with Isperia the Inscrutable and provides advantage to everyone. Sphinx of Magosi is fetchable and only provides advantage to me, but is more expensive and I have to pay for each activation.

So, a few things for a competitive deck:

  • Mana ramp. I get that U/W isn't super great but you have many artifacts available to you which will greatly help. Especially for such a hard costed general. Things like Chromatic Lantern, Marble Diamond, Sky Diamond, Burnished Hart all really help to get mana down quickly.

  • Card draw is super important. Your general may be a toolbox general, however that doesn't mean you can skimp on the card draw. Especially when you need to deal combat damage to trigger the tutor. You're not a Captain Sisay or Arcum Dagsson deck, you can't just tap to do your thing. Especially when your deck is a control based general damage deck, you need access to removal and counterspells. I would recommend at least 10-15 seperate card draw/tutor effects seperate to your general's tutor. Good cards would be Enlightened Tutor, Mystical Tutor, Blue Sun's Zenith, Mulldrifter, Consecrated Sphinx etc. And look at the ones you already run - e.g. Trinket Mage fetches a whole 2 cards. Kinda crap. Now upgrade that to Fabricate and you can fetch everything. Yes, I know hes a creature which means you can recur him, all of once before he's a generic 2/2.

  • Removal Base. You have a good chunk of counterspells and removal, however I feel like the cards you run could be tweaked a bit. Things like Logic Knot are not that great, as you pay a lot more than just mana. I would look into things like Swan Song, Mindbreak Trap, Memory Lapse and Lapse of Certainty - these two while not being hard counters are great for your general. For after- the-fact removal, Curse of the Swine, Path to Exile, Oblation are all really powerful cards.

  • Utility. You have a toolbox general but you need to make her work for you. Cards like Gravitational Shift are great for getting through that extra damage. Capsize is an amazing card as you know what you bounce. Brago, King Eternal is awesome since he "untaps" your general and lets you trigger lots of ETB effects (since most of your creatures are ETB based). Archaeomancer lets you recur instants and sorceries. If you really feel like splashing out, Vendilion Clique is awesome for your general, ableit expensive. Since you don't have a huge amount of ramp available to you, Leyline of Anticipation is good in this kind of deck.

  • Mana base. Why are you running cards like Ancient Den and Seat of the Synod? its not you run a Tezzeret the Seeker . you get no added value from them, but on down side a nice overleoaded Vandalblast (yes this happens quite a bit) will leave you two lands less. Seems not good. Also, EVERY competitive deck should run Strip Mine. No excusses. Its not about wrecking other's mana bases, its about dealing with that Gaea's Cradle that's tapping for 5 mana a turn. Academy Ruins is a solid recussion engine. And get at least a Flooded Strand, they're going quite cheap at the moment. A few fetches (you can run 7 total) + a Crucible of Worlds should be your end goal. It means that you will never get mana screw'd and you can very quickly strip your deck of lands.

I know this is a bit of a wall of text but hopefully it will give you and idea about more competitive deckbuilding descisions.

It took awhile to sift through that! You provided some really interesting thoughts. I decided to keep Trinket Mage in the list, because he can fetch four different things actually (which makes him a tad better as ramp). Fetches and a Crucible of Worlds will be added eventually, I would rather acquire a Tundra first, though.

enpc says... #21

If you're looking to get a Tundra then at least get yourself a Flooded Strand. I'm still not a fan of Trinket Mage but if you like him go for it. I would look into getting Sensei's Divining Top / Mana Vault to give you some more value. Sensei's is expensive but it really is worth it.

cosmokai2000 says... #22

Top and Vault are definitely things on the wishlist! They're too good not to play, I just haven't got around to getting the Top and Vault is just too expensive

December 17, 2014 3:14 a.m.

cosmokai2000 says... #23

I definitely just confused Mana Vault and Mana Crypt again. What would you suggest swapping for vault?

December 17, 2014 3:18 a.m.

enpc says... #24

Yeah, I really want a Mana Crypt, but $200 is a lot to spend on a single card. I would probably ditch Expedition Map for now, its not like you have super crucial utility lands.

December 17, 2014 3:28 a.m.

cosmokai2000 says... #25

That's a very valid point. I'll make the swap. Thanks for all the help!
