Maybeboard

This is an Eldrazi token tribal deck that focuses on making a ton of Eldrazi Scion and Spawn tokens. One of my first decks I've ever made in Magic is my Eldrazi Tremors (Pauper, Modern Legal) Pauper deck, and I liked the concept a lot that it's become an EDH deck!

The deck focuses on playing little Eldrazi that create tokens on ETB like Brood Monitor and Emrakul's Hatcher, and using blink or doublers (Eldrazi Displacer, Conjurer's Closet, Parallel Lives, Panharmonicon) to absolutely flood the board with tokens. These little 0/1s and 1/1s are quite versatile since they can sacrifice themselves to give mana at instant speed, while also being a body to attack or block with. They become a lot scarier once cards like Coat of Arms or Impact Tremors are brought out, pumping their power/toughness to double digits or just straight up killing everyone by making infinite tokens.

The Commander

Golos, Tireless Pilgrim is a perfect fit for this deck: being colorless means it can be rushed out without color fixing, having a great ETB is perfect with the blink theme, and the activated ability gives some extra gas. The five-color color identity also lets us run anything we need in the deck. The land tutor effect can grab Eye of Ugin, which can tutor for other combo pieces as well as ramp for the other Eldrazi.

Strategy

Early Game

Mulligan for ramp cards as we need to get to 5 mana as fast as possible. Colors don't matter as Golos is colorless. Cheaper token generators like Nest Invader also act as ramp while putting up some blockers. Play Golos, Tireless Pilgrim and grab:

Mid Game

Develop a board by playing some token generators or enchantments. Blink Golos for extra mana and token generators for more tokens.

Set up combo pieces such as Parallel Lives / Anointed Procession or generators like Brood Monitor on the board ready to blink. Tutors help grab key cards like Eldrazi Displacer (Primary Enabler), Flayer Drone / Impact Tremors (Combo Win), Coat of Arms / Shared Animosity (Combat Win).

Activate Golos's ability if/when needed.

Late Game

Close out the game with a variety of win conditions. If there are a lot of tokens on the board already, a combat win might be easier. Otherwise the combo win could be worth going for. Be wary of effects that trigger when something dies (Massacre Wurm for example).

Combos

Token Payoffs

  • Impact Tremors / Purphoros, God of the Forge: A combo win condition. With infinite ETB triggers it'll do infinite damage to all opponents. Idyllic Tutor can grab both.

  • Flayer Drone: A combo win condition that can be tutored with Eye of Ugin and From Beyond. It functions like Impact Tremors but only targets one player at a time. Note that if an opponent has hexproof, this won't work.

  • Blood Artist / Zulaport Cutthroat: A combo win condition. Instead of doing damage on ETB, they'll do damage when we sacrifice the tokens. Can be played early for some incidental damage and lifegain as well.

  • Coat of Arms / Shared Animosity / Beastmaster Ascension: Combat win condition - pump the tokens and swing for big damage. It's very likely we'll have a good amount of tokens just sitting around, and just couple of them is enough to put pressure or take someone out. Infinite tokens results in overkill which is always fun.

  • Catacomb Sifter: Whenever we sacrifice a token, we scry 1. If we have an infinite token engine on the board but no win condition, we can use this as a tutor, since we can scry until we find the card we want and leave it on top. Golos's activated ability can help play it right away.

  • Fecundity / Smothering Abomination / Skullclamp: Draw a lot of cards by taking advantage of the sacrifice ability on the tokens.

  • Eldrazi Displacer: Because creatures blinked by Eldrazi Displacer come back tapped, we can tap all of our opponents creatures before combat to take them out or protect ourselves. Be wary of their own ETB effects though (or laugh if they have an ETB that draws them cards).

Cards I'm Considering

  • Removal / draw spells.

  • Any cheap tutors / recursion spells, or anything obvious I missed. Suggestions welcome!

Exclusions

  • The Three Titans: I didn't want to play any of big three since that's sort of the opposite of what I want for this deck.

  • Cheat into play effects: Not much to cheat into since most of the creatures in this deck are cheap and small, and likely already have their costs reduced by Eye of Ugin.

  • Expensive cards: Doubling Season is $50 and 5 CMC.

  • Off-Theme cards: Field of the Dead is not bad in Golos decks but it makes zombies and not Eldrazi, so no.

  • Just not very good: Blight Herder, Void Attendant, and other Processors. Token spawners that only produce one token.

Updates

RIP this deck for now.

Manabase was adjusted a bit, borrowing some shocklands from my Mayael deck. Decided to try Rout over Fumigate for the flash. Draw power, recursion, and additional wincons were added. New card Thassa, Deep-Dwelling added as a second Conjurer's Closet.

I felt Dictate of Erebos didn't do much for me so it went out.

The Average CMC also decreased by 0.34 to 3.35.

Removed Blood Crypt, Canopy Vista, Temple of Plenty, Temple of Deceit, Temur Ascendancy, Dictate of Erebos, Spreading Plague, Fumigate, Skittering Invasion, Displace, Birthing Hulk, Sire of Stagnation, Rapacious One.

Added Caves of Koilos, Godless Shrine, Stomping Ground, Temple Garden, Fecundity, Distant Melody, Regrowth, Rout, Reclaim, Thassa, Deep-Dwelling, Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, Smothering Abomination.

Looking to increase the consistency of this deck. Any feedback is appreciated! I would like to avoid anything over $10-15 though.
