Size Matters When You're Tiny

Tiny Leaders Budget Casual RUG (Temur)

Sideboard

Tiny Leaders was a format that had really started to take off in my local scene - back in that particularly brief span of time when people played it (today it gets referenced pretty much exclusively as the component of a joke about ridiculous made up formats, like "Type 2 Tiny Brawl") - and enough people at the time had nagged me about making a deck, so this was my only "halfway serious" foray into the format, which I whipped up in like 15 minutes, primarily out of cards I had sitting around. They might have got me to make a deck, but they couldn't actually get me to care about it, ha ha! I still have this deck intact for some reason, despite never even once actually using it.

My only sort of halfhearted goal when building this was to "break the format" (not really) by having enormous creatures on my side of the table that would all be legal in the format because their CMC is technically 3 or less (though actually casting any of them at their "base" CMC would be incredibly stupid).

So in other words, hydras all up ins - when left to my own devices it seems I'm not terribly subtle.

While eating breakfast this morning a thought occurred to me - I'd been undervaluing Scourge of Skola Vale because he's a 2/2 for 3 that requires me to sacrifice things and tap to get bigger; sure, he has trample and lets you potentially get utility from things about to die anyways, but I don't ordinarily want to sac anything of mine to him.

The realization I reached of course is one that "should" be pretty obvious - I'd be putting him into a deck with a commander who is "conditional Act of Treason" on a stick; the things I'd be sacrificing would be the opponents creatures, after I stole them. I felt silly afterwards, and Scourge has now made the list.
