Simic Golgari Alliance

Standard* B/G (Golgari) G/U (Simic)

DarkHero Score: 2

Description

"The Simic can grow anything out of a puddle of sludge. I just hope they never join forces with the Golgari."

Needs some help. Comments and suggestions would be great. +1 if you like.

Fathom Mage + Master Biomancer + Corpsejack Menace = Unfair

I'd use Rapid Hybridization instead of Ultimate Price .

DarkHero says... #2

why would I want to give my opponent a 3/3? I only like Rapid Hybridization when you can use it on a creature with undying early game.

January 25, 2013 1:43 p.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #3

You could use it on yourself! Kill off an Arbor Elf , make a 3/3 to block?

Or

They target something to kill, you Simic Charm it when you can. Or, Rapid Hybridization it so it becomes a 3/3, and you still have a creature.

DarkHero says... #4

I wouldn't want to replace my only way to kill my opponents creatures though. I like the card don't get me wrong, but I don't think I want to replace Ultimate Price with it.

January 25, 2013 1:48 p.m.

comatoseeffect says... #5

What Vos said. It's flexible. It can kill virtually any creature short of hexproof or indestructible. It isn't any use whatsoever against Undying, though. So you're mistaken there. A generic 3/3 shouldn't be that big of a threat.

Ultimate Price is limited by color, though. In a format where most of the big, dangerous creatures are multicolored, it's not of guaranteed maximum use.

early game any 3/3 is good. Its all well and good for destroying a big bady and replacing it with a frog, but it isnt going to slow anyone down. And if you use Rapid Hybridization on any of your own creatures with undying, such as Young Wolf , You get the 3/3 frog and then you get your Young Wolf back as a 2/2

Ultimate Price is the best option out right now for straight up instant speed creature destruction, its not perfect, but it is the best option right now. Ill try it without for now though.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #9

Victim of Night might be better when gatecrash is out.

January 25, 2013 3:02 p.m.

DarkHero says... #10

it will be better but it needs color fixing as it is mono black. Ultimate Price has the benefit of being more flexible in that sense.

January 25, 2013 3:04 p.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #11

True.

I know you'll make whatever decision you want, but I'm going to type this out to help myself think about it as well.... or. Wait. Are we arguing over whether to use Ultimate Price vs. Rapid Hybridization ?

I see you have both in your list, and with that i am happy. But if you were going to run one or the other, i would choose Rapid Hybridization

January 25, 2013 3:15 p.m.

DarkHero says... #12

That was the original debate yes. I went with Rapid Hybridization for now at least. It seems the overwhelming demand for it has won out.

Just out of curiosity, why no Bioshift ? Seems like this deck would benefit from being able to move counters around and I don't see any ways to do that here, unless I missed something.

January 29, 2013 6:39 p.m.

DarkHero says... #14

Ive considered it but im not sure what I could drop for it yet. any ideas?

February 5, 2013 10 a.m.

Jp3ngu1nb0y says... #15

I feel like this deck is a little unstable. You have lots of 2ofs in the mainboard, it would greatly improve consistency to drop some for more 4ofs. For example, why is Typhoid Rats in here? Wouldn't he be more useful as 2 more Cloudfin Raptor ?

Oh, and I have to ask, why Gyre Sage ? All that mana would help for is Primordial Hydra and Syncopate (the latter being overkill). You curve out at about 4, so being able to tap her for GGGG would have limited impact compared to more powerful creatures. Not to mention you can't even get her rolling until the turn after you play her most of the time.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #16

as far as armedpp's point. You could move counters over to Vampire Nighthawk . That could be mean.

February 5, 2013 11:04 a.m.

DarkHero says... #17

Points taken guys, made some changes, tell me what you think.

February 5, 2013 11:38 a.m.

DarkHero says... #18

Say a creature is being destroyed...can you use Bioshift to remove any 1/1 counters from it before it gets destroyed and put them on another creature??

February 5, 2013 11:39 a.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #19

yes

February 5, 2013 11:41 a.m.

DarkHero says... #20

I will run 4 of those now then...

February 5, 2013 11:44 a.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #21

:3

Its good for combat tricks too.

Lets say you attacked with a creature with 3 +1/+1 counters. All you have left is a wimpy blocker, so they swing back at you. You can shift the counters on to your wimpy blocker, and block to kill their attacker.

Then you can move them back, or just attack with your not-so-wimpy-anymore guy.

February 5, 2013 11:47 a.m.

DarkHero says... #22

yeah i never thought of it like that. I only ever thought maybe I would move 1/1 counters to Fathom Mage to draw cards or something like that, but this makes way more sense. Very tricky.

February 5, 2013 11:51 a.m.

DarkHero says... #23

Any thoughts on Crowned Ceratok ?? Trample seems like something this deck might need.

February 5, 2013 11:53 a.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #24

I would keep playing the way you do, and if you feel you need the trample, put him in... or just run Rancor

February 5, 2013 11:58 a.m.

DarkHero says... #25

I am running Rancor , but I know M13 will cycle out soon.

February 5, 2013 11:59 a.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #26

oh, i missed that. You dont need the rhino for now then... and you have a long time to run Rancor still XD 6 months?

February 5, 2013 12:02 p.m.

armedpp says... #27

The Bioshift also combos nicely with Corpsejack Menace , it gets out of hand pretty quickly

February 5, 2013 2:55 p.m.

armedpp says... #28

Also I might be wrong in my interpertation of the rules here, but is it really worth running 4 Farseek when you only have 6 fetchable lands(the shock lands) in the deck?

February 5, 2013 3:09 p.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #29

I was looking at the mana base... and was curious.

Besides Vampire Nighthawk , whats the black for?

February 5, 2013 3:40 p.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #30

I really gotta stop submitting these comments before i'm finished typing.

** Besides Vampire Nighthawk and Corpsejack Menace ?

Or are those the only two cards you're thinking of?

February 5, 2013 3:41 p.m.

Vos_Is_Boss says... #31

Yep, im a winner at this.

The above comments... PLUS...

you need at least a minimum of 22 land. I wouldn't run anything less.
