Sideboard

A friend invited me to play in a small modern tournament coming up soon. I decided to overhaul my standard deck to see if I could make it usable in modern.

Goblin Rabblemaster:
The obvious star in this deck. One of these guys or a Goblin Assault should keep this deck happy for a while. More than one? Well, these guys have a mind of their own. Better clear the way!

Removal:

  • Terminate- Unconditional removal for two cmc. Nothing better.
  • Lightning Bolt- If you run red, I hear you're supposed to have four of these. -shrug- Who am I to disappoint?
  • Tragic Slip- Because goblins are careless creatures.
  • Goblin Grenade- Goblins love this kind of thing, I swear!

Support:

  • Signal Pest- Battle cry is a great mechanic. These one drops are battle cry in a neat little package.
  • Goblin Wardriver - Goblins can be lazy, even when their rabblemaster is around. This guy gives them a little encouragement with his own war whoops.
  • Purphoros, God of the Forge- With damage dealt for each creature entering the battlefield and a pump for each creature, it doesn't even matter if he becomes a creature.
  • Goblin Chieftain - With a little bit of leadership, you'll find that goblins can be a formidable force. Haste has never hurt goblins before... Right?

Sideboard:

  • Magus of the Moon- They're not entirely sure how it makes temples into mountains, but goblins aren't the type to argue with results... Cheaper than Blood Moon because I'm not paying $80 for a playset of a single card, no matter how awesome it is.
  • Earwig Squad- These guys are just cute. Additionally, they find and kill your Jeskai Ascendancy. -jerk-
  • Goblin King- This guy has some interesting interactions with the Magus of the Moon and absolutely wrecks other red decks.
  • Rakdos Charm- Dredge, Delve, Whip... They'll hate seeing this activate. Also artifact hate! Weeeee!

I'm still looking for ways to improve this deck! Let me know what you see!

Updates Add

After a few days of playtesting and tweaking, I've decided to pull this deck further into goblin tribal aggro and away from sacrifice and midrange. Also cleaned up comments.
