Update From Tonight —Oct. 30, 2015

**Played in 4 games/pods tonight **

Pod 1:

In pod one, one of my opponents was playing a deck with Gaddock Teeg as its commander. I had some difficulty playing around it. This player had cards to protect Gaddock by giving it protection and ways to dodge single target effects. I also was unable to use any board wipes because of him either. I was pretty much locked up. I would love some advise on how to deal with Gaddock Teeg in this deck.

Pod 2:

Pod two was a bit of a different game. I was up against a Nahiri, the Lithomancer deck, Marath, Will of the Wild deck, and a Kaalia of the Vast deck. The Marath deck was starting to get out of hand with a Doubling Season and Cathars' Crusade. This combined with a Hooded Hydra was very scary. Fortunantly, I was able to use a Quarantine Field to deal with it. In the end, I survived until it was just me and the Nahiri deck and I was beaten by a sun titan with all the swords on it.

Pod 3:

In pod three, I was facing a Blue/White deck and a Purphoros, God of the Forge Deck. I was the 2nd to go down. Had a steak of bad luck and got a bit land flooded. Ouch :(

Pod 4:

In this last pod, I was facing a 5 color deck, a Rakdos deck, and a Mono green deck. The mono green deck was running Bane of Progress. This card was getting recurred an constantly causing me issues. I would love to hear some thoughts on how to combat it. I survived for quite a while, but eventually all the enchantment sweeping finally did me in. I need more answers to enhancement sweepers.

Take Aways:

Some cards that I need to think of answers/workarounds for are Bane of Progress and Gaddock Teeg. They caused some significant problems for me.

I also found that Kor Spiritdancer was not proving enough effect for the deck. I have found myself enchanting my angels or other big dudes and not Kor Spiritdancer and therefore she would only be a draw engine for auras. However, as auras are a limited subset of enchantments, am still not getting the same draw power as from the enchantresses. I am going to be replacing Kor Spiritdancer in the deck.

I also realized during play that Heliod, God of the Sun cat tokens do not trigger drawing from my enchantresses. Thus, he lost significant piece of power in this deck. I am considering swapping him out for another enchantment or beater (like another angel).

I also need to add more ways of dealing with board wipe of enchantments to the deck. Relying on Replenish is nowhere near enough.

I am still looking for comments and suggestions and would love additional feedback. Thanks!!!

Thanks Mandalorian.

Your right, Academy Rector and Enlightened Tutor provide 2 more tutors I can run. Not sure I would run Heliod's Pilgram, would need to test it out.

Why would you add Greater Auramancy? It seems like it may actually have some negative synergy in that I would be unable to apply more than 1 aura to a creature.

Rogue's Passage is something I should definitely add. Any recommendation on a land to swap for it?

Ya Heliod's Pilgrim was an iffy suggestion but its a common so its not anything amazing but it is a tutor of sorts if you find you need more.

Lol ya nvm on the Greater Auramancy that would be counterintuitive

Temple of Plenty? Its the only land that comes in tapped and doesn't do anything past its ETB effect

Love me some Daybreak Coronet. Maybe you would, too?

Pranker0 Good Idea. I should test out Daybreak Coronet. The only worry I have is whether I have enough auras to ensure it wont be a dead card in my hand frequently.

My brother has a deck which runs on the same theme. I'll ask him to come back with suggestions, and He'll definitely get some ideas from this deck. Thanks so much! +1

I am running an Aura Hexproof deck in EDH right now as well, so you've got my vote, I already spied a couple cards in your build that I wanna try to squeeze into mine! If I had them, that is. I agree that Daybreak Coronet is awesome!

I have mine geared more like a traditional Bogles build, but it's basically the same concept. Check it out if you have time. Sex-Proof Selensyabians We can compare notes!

Courser of Kruphix might be a good addition.

This looks really solid. +1!

Only a few things I can even think of that might be worthwhile adds:

And though I like the dragon auras a lot, they seem rather dramatically off-flavor for your deck. But just in case you haven't already checked them out, here's Dragon Fangs and Dragon Scales.

Thanks for the Feedback BotaNickill and clayperce!!!

I will have to test out your suggestions

Bear Umbra for sure. The play spell/attack/untap is great for leaving mana open on opponent turns.

To add to your minor pillow-fort, some essential cards like Moat since you have some fliers (and can make a bunch off of Sigil of the Empty Throne, Ghostly Prison to accompany your Sphere, and general good utilities like Runed Halo/Nevermore/Darksteel Mutation/Stasis Snare/Quarantine Field

Thanks for the ideas BobFromAccounting

I think I will definantly add Bear Umbra.

I also just added Skullclamp. It looks like it can combo very well with the tokens from Awakening Zone.

In mono-black, the two ways that I use to deal with Sigarda are Sudden Spoiling and Arcane Lighthouse.

I see you run Strip Mine, and that's good, but you may also want to run Wasteland and Dust Bowl to insure that the lighthouse is kill.

As for sudden spoiling, not much you can do about that -- except for giving yourself hexproof, which patches some holes in the defense of your permanents that might otherwise be open. In this area Orbs of Warding, Witchbane Orb, Aegis of the Gods (on theme even!)

Another consideration is cards like Nevinyrral's Disk, Oblivion Stone, and Perilous Vault -- for these general purpose artifact sweepers, you may want to run Null Rod and Stony Silence. You run very few artifacts, and none of them are essential to the strategy of the deck. You would definitely get away with being able to play one set of cards or the other in different games -- and the value would be irreplaceable

Thanks for the feedback illumfolly

Your right, with my minimal use of artifacts, Null Rod and Stony Silence could be very useful in protecting my stuff as well as limiting combo potential of my opponents.

I have been considering ways of giving myself hexproof. What do you think of Leyline of Sanctity as an option?

October 27, 2015 11:19 a.m.

SomeDipshit says... #16

Absolutely, definitely more protectable than Aegis of the Gods

I have also been considering Doubling Season. Anyone have any thoughts regarding this idea? It could allow me to boost the planeswalkers faster as well as amplify the token generation and counters I generate.

October 27, 2015 11:30 a.m.

clayperce says... #18

Doubling Season is absolutely amazing, but I've found it draws a ton of hate, so you really want to be able to use it as a finisher.

Proliferate is another option for boosting loyalty counters, but unfortunately there aren't a ton of good options for Selesnya (Gatherer search). Maybe a Contagion Clasp? Especially if you can pair it up with a Strionic Resonator.

Ajani Steadfast is another option as well.

One more thing to note: With Doubling Season out, Planeswalkers enter the battlefield with double the normal counters, but the counters gained or lost from their abilities (e.g., their +1) are unchanged because that's a "cost" not an effect.

clayperce says... #19

Hmm, looks like my Gatherer link is broken. Try this one instead.

October 27, 2015 12:56 p.m.

SomeDipshit says... #20

No Doubling Season -- literally no point. Your planeswalkers are there to generate value, not to enter the battlefield and ultimate themselves.

It'd be far better to use more effective hate and control strategies to make sure that they stay around -- angelic enchantress isn't about explosive plays! it's about the persistence of idyllic magic in the mortal world!

Nevermind me above, with my next suggestion being that you could make such good use of some land destruction in this deck.

So, in total so far:

Aegis of the Gods + Leyline of Sanctity, and Stony Silence + Null Rod ... then, drop an an Armageddon and game is over. you win.

SomeDipshit says... #21

Also grab a Tawnos's Coffin for obvious reasons

October 27, 2015 11:05 p.m.

clayperce says... #22

That's a really good flavor point illumfolly!
I'm pretty Timmy, so lean towards the explosive plays more than I should sometimes ... especially when looking at a Sigarda deck!

October 28, 2015 11:21 a.m.

GenesisWave says... #23

I like this a lot, and I'm glad to see other players realizing Sigarda lends herself to enchantments well. Although its funny seeing a more aggressive variant of Sigarda EDH. Mine's a bit more...like a gated community. If that makes sense.

Thanks for the feedback GenesisWave, clayperce, and illumfolly

I not sure I am going to run proliferate in the decks current form. Might be a bit too tangential to the decks theme.

I added Sylvan Library to the main as it does seem very good and card draw from an enchantment at its cost seems quite nice.

I am also considering From Beyond over Mobilization. The elrazi tokens have the same power and toughness as the solder tokens, but can be sacrificed to fuel drawing with Skullclamp. Thoughts?

Added Leyline of Sanctity as that does patch a weakness in the deck. Still looking into how I could integrate Stony Silence. Running Armageddon seems like a cool idea as well and something I am looking to try out.

I am thinking that I do seem to have an Angels theme to this deck. I am considering Archangel of Thune and Archangel of Tithes as additions. I also swapped out Sun Titan with Iona, Shield of Emeria. Comments?

Thanks for all the feedback. I really appreciate it. Please continue to help me make this deck the best it can be. Thanks

SomeDipshit says... #25

From Beyond is probably better for you... it is very good generally and provides some extra ramp, fodder, etc. It fills the same role and more as mobilization (except that it is less of a mana dump), and provides a neat enchantment advantage (it's a tutor for Eldrazi Conscription when it is no longer needed for tokens).

Don't need the first two angels, and would mostly just be other beaters. It's rare that a suited up sigarda has trouble with blockers, and you have better options for defense (Ghostly Prison etc).

Put Sun Titan back right now, and goodness gracious, get an Eternal Witness in here.

Iona, Shield of Emeria -- sure, can't go wrong with this, sublime hatred. I would recommend that you add Angel of Jubilation, Linvala, Keeper of Silence, and maybe a Containment Priest just for kicks.
