Shattergang Brothers Artifact EDH

Enchantment (1)

This is a Shattergang Brothers list focused on controlling the game with the Brothers's abilities until you can resolve a powerful threat to close out the game. Their abilities are very mana hungry, and the deck has some messy color requirements to pay, so there's a pretty substantial ramp package to support this. I wanted this list to be able to utilize Inspiring Statuary to great effect. I'm not sure if it has succeeded, but I really like the idea of using random artifact tokens to power out an It That Betrays or Kaervek the Merciless really early to take over the game.

Notable Inclusions

From Beyond - I really like this and Awakening Zone in decks that like tokens and mana, but this is especially powerful here for its ability to tutor up It That Betrays, which is incredibly strong with Shattergang Brothers.

Glistening Oil - The mana cost on this is pretty obnoxious, but I believe the versatility it provides is well worth it. In the midgame this can be used simply as enchantment fodder, and then later used with powerful beaters to quickly remove players from the game. This is especially good on Deathbringer Thoctar, Goblin Sharpshooter, or Kaervek the Merciless.

Fecundity - Sure, this gives opponents a few cards, but the advantage it gives you is enormous. This deck creates tons of creatures and constantly sacrifices them for value, and adding a draw to each sacrifice is fantastic.

Feldon of the Third Path - I love this card in this deck. Actually scratch that, I just love this card in general. With all the token generators in here, you're probably getting more than just one temporary body from his effect. In addition, he lets you reuse all your powerful etb effects, like Eternal Witness or Sidisi, Undead Vizier.

Inspiring Statuary - As I mentioned in the description, I actually created this list in an attempt to abuse this card. I think I fell a bit short of that goal, since a lot of our cards are fairly color intensive or are artifacts, but it still should provide a fairly significant mana boost for casting many of our spells. In addition, there are lots of effects that create artifact tokens, so you should never be lacking for fuel with this card.

Trading Post - This card is so ridiculously good in this deck. It gives you card draw off of random artifact tokens you have lying around. It gives you token production to use with the brothers or any other sac outlet. It even lets you recur powerful artifacts that somehow got sent to the graveyard. Hell, you can even discard cards for life if you're in a desperate situation. This card does it all.

Ulvenwald Mysteries - I really like the idea of this card, though it has never really lived up to my expectations. It looks really nice on paper, since it gives you card draw, artifact tokens, and creature tokens. However, I'm not sure if it's quite as good as it looks.

Notable Exclusions

Rancor - Running this over one of the two recursive enchantments I currently have would essentially reduce the cost of making opponents sac an enchantment from 5 to 4 mana. In my opinion, such a minor cost decrease is not worse sacrificing the utility of the enchantment's effect. Rancor doesn't really do anything for the deck, since we have very few powerful attackers, and we should be able to push them through by clearing out our opponents' creatures. I think this is actually the fourth best option in the recursive enchantment slot, after Aspect of Mongoose, Glistening Oil, and Fallen Ideal.

Glissa, the Traitor - I didn't want to commit too many slots to artifacts with powerful etb/ltb effects to make optimal use of this card. With the powerful artifact creatures I'm running, it might still be worth it, and I'll definitely be considering it in the future. Its mana cost is also fairly difficult, and we already have enough trouble getting the right colors.
