Commander / EDH

Blitzak

There is a lot going on in this deck but it all blends together around the commander. It starts off as what seems to be a basic group hug and landfall deck. There is also a hidden pitfall that I set for my opponents to walk right into...

I'll break down the various strategies with prime examples. My goal is to extract maximum value from everything that I am enabling.

Extra Land Drops

My commander is the most reliable source of these, but not the only one. This whole deck revolves around lands, so having as many as possible is the first step. Examples include Exploration, Oracle of Mul Daya and Mina and Denn, Wildborn.

Card Draw

Again, my commander is the primary source for this. There are lots of these, because I want to be drawing 5+ cards per turn once the deck gets rolling. Those lands have to come from somewhere. Examples include Well of Ideas, Rites of Flourishing and Horn of Greed.

Landfall

A large chunk of the deck is based around landfall. My commander gets me a second land drop each turn and I do my best to take advantage of that. Examples include Retreat to Emeria, Omnath, Locus of Rage and Roil Elemental.

X=number of lands

After I put so many lands into play, it is a natural step to add cards that are based on how many lands you have. Examples include Avenger of Zendikar and Hazezon Tamar.

Sacrificing lands

There are some powerful effects related to lands going to the graveyard. Since I have more lands than I need, sparing a few isn't a problem. Examples include Titania, Protector of Argoth, Aggressive mining and Sylvan Safekeeper. A unique example in this section is Price of Glory. It both acts as a deterrent and as an excellent outlet for Titania.

Benefitting from opponents

Since I am giving so much to my opponents, I must keep this in mind. I choose to use this to my advantage by working it into my plans. I have ways to gain from almost everything my opponents do with the resources I have given them. Examples include Consecrated Sphinx, Burgeoning, Rhystic Study, Lurking Predators, Forgotten Ancient. The most recent and amusing is Mind's Dilation.

All of this is topped off with the biggest trap in the deck.

Nonbasic land hate

These cards are the endgame plan for the deck. After giving my opponents so many free lands, I turn these gifts into their doom. I am not affected since all of my lands are basics. These cards are Burning Earth, Blood Moon and Primal Order.

This deck is in a good spot. The upgrades this deck needs are Price of Progress, Back to Basics and Crucible of Worlds.
