Commander / EDH Budget Mono-Blue Tokens

Ghostshaman33

welcome to the first installment of the shamans altar. A budget deck series by yours truly.

The goal of this series is to rekindle the essence of commander (EDH, if you’re an old timer like me). Fun decks with out breaking the bank. In this series of primers I will work my way through the color pie, keeping each deck at a maximum of $50. Some decks, much like this first one, will come in cheaper. I’ll include some upgrades at the bottom for those with deeper pockets.

This deck came in at $30!!!!

So now that you’ve made it this far let’s begin with a mono blue commander with an interesting mechanic Jalira, Master Polymorphist. She has the ability to turn your unassuming creatures into massive threats for the low cost of 3 mana. The focus of the deck is to get out your token producers for sac fodder and then polymorph into a colossus like Stormtide Leviathan and devastate our opponents So let’s take a look now at the tech.
We need the means to flip those tokens and set up our morphs so we aren’t wasting that precious ability. We achieve this with draw, scry, and index like abilities such as Anticipate/Brainstorm/Opt/Telling Time/Foresee/Index/Divination
Being mono blue we have a wealth of counter spells available to keep our opponents at bay until we can pop off a fatty. Curse of the Swine/Cancel/Summoner's Bane(who also doubles as a token producer)Guile(who is just fantastic in a deck like this) and AEtherspouts are some of the offerings this deck has.
Here we have the token engines which enable us to sac into our big guys. Some of them include Nuisance Engine/Trading Post/Thopter Spy Network/Servo Schematic/Thopter Assembly and Myr Turbine
Here we look at the real meat of the deck, the big ass mofos. Stormtide Leviathan/Inkwell Leviathan/Artisan of Kozilek/Bane of Bala Ged/Colossal Whale/Chancellor of the Spires/Deceiver of Form/Scourge of Fleets Once you have polymorphed into these guys you can equip Whispersilk Cloak or Lightning Greaves to protect them, cast a Whelming Wave to clear the board save for your fatties and counter out any removal the opponent may have.
Some inexpensive upgrades we can make are Chasm Skulker/Proteus Staff/Mimic Vat/Polymorphous Rush

Non budget upgrades

Cyclonic Rift/Darksteel Colossus/Sensei's Divining Top/Rhystic Study and more. Luckily blue is pretty easy to upgrade so the options are endless.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this budget primer, next up we will be looking at a mono black commander Gonti, Lord of Luxury!
