Infinite combos?? —Jan. 23, 2019

I usually stay away from infinite combos cause I think it's a cheesy way to win against friends...However, I figure I should have a couple in there just in case I Take it to the tournament table one of these days. I'm thinking Squirrel Nest with Earthcraft for starters, just have to track down an Earthcraft, does anyone know of any other easy enchantment infinite combos I could squeeze in here?

Well, I think "selesbians" is a better word to the title x)

Sunbond and Dawnbringer Charioteers is a really fun combo to run in a deck like this. Sure he doesn't have hexproof, but I am sure you can find a way to give it to him which would just make him even more powerful!

(upvoted) Hi, this list is great and I'll be getting the cards to play with it soon but, I have 2 questions. Greater auramancy stops you from enchanting an already enchanted creature right? also nimble mongoose too right?

BotaNickill says... #7

Cierzos, thanks for the upvote! As Far as your questions are concerned, Shroud/Hexproof/and "can't be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control" are all the same. So even though Greater Auramancy gives your creatures shroud, You can still enchant them or target them with whatever You want. Your opponents cannot! I'm glad you want to build this deck, I personally live playing it, and would like to see what you do with it! Keep me informed, and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask!

BotaNickill : Sadly, no.

From the Magic the Gathering rules :

702.18. Shroud

702.18a. Shroud is a static ability. "Shroud" means "This permanent or player can't be the target of spells or abilities."

702.18b. Multiple instances of shroud on the same permanent or player are redundant.

702.11. Hexproof

702.11a Hexproof is a static ability.

702.11b Hexproof on a permanent means This permanent cant be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control.

702.11c Hexproof on a player means You cant be the target of spells or abilities your opponents control.

702.11d Multiple instances of hexproof on the same permanent or player are redundant.

Sadly.

Karzalar, thanks for setting the record straight. I did not realize you can't target your own shrouded creatures, I thought it was just one of those old txts that had evolved over the years. I guess my old Autumn Willow should have clued me in tho! (Although they show a new one on the image that says "shroud", while mine says "cannot be the target of spells or effects") Wellp, Learn something new everyday I Spose. Thanks Man!

sorry for the misinformation Cierzos

Nice man Thanks! Any other suggestions or things I might have missed?

Well, since you've got only ONE artifact in the whole deck, why not try to run Stony Silence? It'll hurt more opponents than yourself.

Maybe a Freyalise, Llanowar's Fury for token generation, mana ramp, and artifact/enchantment destruction on a stick? (Plus the card draw!)

Also, i can't stress enough taking Bower Passage. It literally gives unblockable to all of your flyers.

BotaNickill says... #13

Right on man, I think I have a Stony Silence around here somewhere, I'll think on it, I'm not big into Control these days, but the other 2 cards I don't have, I like the Bower Passage, I will try to find one of those for sure. Well, I've been comparing our 2 decks off and on all day, and one thing that comes to mind is Why don't you run Fetch Lands? I get it if It's a cost thing, but they are so amazing for thinning out the deck and pulling the lands you want. Just curious. Thanks again for the suggestions!

September 8, 2017 7:25 p.m.

Karzalar says... #14

Simply cost-related. I might get them when they'll be lower in price.

Also, i like running spells that fetches any land, to answer many situations. Sylvan Scrying to get a Cavern of Souls against a control deck is awesome.

Sram, Senior Edificer, Ghostblade Eidolon, Snake Umbra, Unquestioned Authority, Bow of Nylea, Spear of Heliod, Heliod, God of the Sun, Mother of Runes, Celestial Mantle, Grasp of Fate, Shield of the Oversoul, Dawn to Dusk, Archetype of Courage, Celestial Archon, Eidolon of Rhetoric, Nylea, God of the Hunt, and Spirit of the Labyrinth all work with this deck pretty well. I apologize if I am repeating suggestions, or missed it in your deck. I feel they're inclusion is intuitive however if you want me to elaborate on a card I would be happy to.

BotaNickill says... #16

epajula, thanks for taking the time to check out the Deck and to make card suggestions. I appreciate it! Do you have any thoughts on what to cut from the deck to make room for some of these cards? I have the 2 god's, the bow and the spear, and all the enchantment creatures you suggested, I don't have any of the other cards. Snake Umbra is already in the deck. Card draw is really what makes this deck explode, so I'm not sure I would add the Spirit of the Labyrinth.

epajula says... #17

Spirit, and Eidolon are for blue and storm decks that just draw/move faster in those regards. I'll be able to look more closely at your deck later, but a good deck building strategy I've recently come across is the 8x8 theory. Essentially it's 8 cards in 8 strategies (draw, ramp, removal, beaters, protection, etc...) I don't follow the 8 cards per rule however in dividing my deck into what the card is mostly used for (I.e. spear of heliod would go into my removal pile as opposed to pump) has really helped me fine tune, and better evaluate picks. For instance: I would essentially count Sram as a draw strat so after dividing my deck into its different components I would evaluate Sram next to the rest of my draw engines. Whatever doesn't make the cut, or if I feel something in another pile is inefficient and want to pull from that area I am able to add the newly considered card.

Alright, I'm back. Sorry about the double post. I'm not sure what happened. Cards I would cut. Daybreak Coronet; requires another card to be effective, and sets up for a 1-for-3+. Hyena Umbra; not enough value. Indestructibility; depends on your meta, but my meta runs a ton of exile. If you're facing more wrath effects it's not bad. 4 mana feels steep for the ability. Island Sanctuary; feels weak in this format. Play Arrest instead of pacifism. Spider Umbra; not enough value. Gladecover Scout; only good turn 1-4. Sylvan Caryatid; I'd rather run straight ramp (Farseek, Harrow, Cultivate, Kodama's Reach). How relevant is it that you have shroud? You have 3 cards that currently give you shroud directly. I feel like this may often be a dead draw, but again it all relates to your meta. I'd also consider switching out some of your artifact/enchantment removal to exile.

epajula, thanks for taking the time to get back to me with some cuts man. I appreciate the suggestions. While I don't have all the cards you suggested, I did go ahead and move some cards to the "sideboard" so you can see what I cut, and I threw in a few cards that I did have like the Bow of Nylea, Heliod, God of the Sun, Nylea, God of the Hunt, Archetype of Courage, Celestial Archon, and Arrest. I keep an eye out for some of the other cards and try to get some playtesting in to see how I like the changes. Thanks again for the constructive advice, much appreciated.

Good luck, buddy. Pay attention to the decks you commonly run into. I'll keep up to 10 cards I'm switching out. Pay mind tone-deaf cards, and why they're dead. Is it late game and you drew a birds...

I think you need to remove Arid Mesa. with no red in the deck it's worth less than a plains.

November 19, 2017 4:56 p.m.

BotaNickill says... #24

MonoBrown, thanks for the suggestion, tho Im gonna have to disagree with you here. The Arid Mesa can fetch not only a plains if I needed it, but also A Savannah, Temple Garden, Canopy Vista, or a Scattered Groves if I happened to need a green as well. Also, even if I do pull a plains with it, It can be a useful tool for thinning out dead land draws later in the game, or give me an opportunity to shuffle my library if I don't like what I see on top of it with my Mirri's Guile or Courser of Kruphix.

I'm not sure you really need hexproof creatures other than Sigarda. She's nearly impossible to remove once you give her Indestructible, and the point of this sort of deck is to stack up one creature to scary proportions; and since this is commander you'll always have her. I'd suggest more creatures with good blocking capability like Sentinel of the Eternal Watch, Silent Arbiter, or Nyx-Fleece Ram, or utility creatures like Auramancer and Heliod's Pilgrim. I'd also recommend Sigarda's Aid so you can flash out auras as needed.

A few good enchantments you're missing out on: Battle Mastery, Ghostblade Eidolon, Abzan Runemark, and Shield of the Oversoul are all very powerful buffs. Flickerform makes Sigarda almost invincible (it takes coordinated opponents to take her down). Some tutors would be useful Open the Armory and Three Dreams are fantastic.

Don't overlook equipment in this sort of deck, you have a lot of enchantment synergy, but there's some fantastic equipment out there Darksteel Plate, Hero's Blade, and Sword of Vengeance to name a few.

I've found Tragic Arrogance and Cataclysm to be very powerful board wipes in this sort of deck.
