Maybeboard

Selvala, Explorer Returned

This card completely changed how I view green forever. For years, I have avoided green like the plague. Anyone who played it against me usually just made big creatures and would swing. Boring. Nothing but turning right and smashing faces. Esper was my way of life.

Until I found her.

A friend of mine casually traded her to me, as he knew I was somewhat interested in making a Commander deck using green (call it a moment of weakness). After looking at her, I realized she was what I wanted all along. Card draw. Life gain. Mana ramp. CHEAP! Group Hug was just an added bonus, as I like to sit back and have others duke it out.

Now Selesnya is my way of life with her. This deck focuses on building your board. Everything from enchantments to creatures. Selvala keeps you alive with life (upwards of 4 a turn in my group, yes please) along with an equal proportion of mana. Suddenly, you can start putting down strong presence while using the politics of the Commander to keep pressure off your side. After all, she needs to build before she snowballs out of control. Why not focus someone else?

She can go nearly infinite (finite, since decks only have 100 cards) with Sword of the Paruns, thus decking your opponents if they reveal well for you or a large enough playgroup. Just keep the stack going, regardless of how much removal hits the board. (Times when I miss Channel...sigh...)

As main win cons, keep your nose clean, people on your side, and start to drop the big players. Jazal Goldmane is necessary for a large swing on the win. White Sun's Zenith can win the game outright. The token generators and counter generators can get out of control if no one removes them.

Feel free to add any constructive comments, as I quite enjoy playing this deck and hope to make it better!

Thanks!

Updates Add

Hello once again! Thanks for all the views and comments. I have truly appreciated all the help and positive feedback from everyone. As always, feel free to continue giving feedback. I hope this deck is as fun for everyone else as it is for me. Now to the changes:

-1 Darksteel Mutation -1 Saltcrusted Steppe -1 Ghost Quarter -1 Emmara Tandris -1 Soul Warden -1 Dread Statuary

0 Path to Exile just looks cooler now lol

+1 Alhammarret's Archive +1 Temple of Plenty +1 Canopy Vista +1 Avacyn, Angel of Hope +1 Joraga Treespeaker +1 Command Beacon

The + and - correspond to each other in numerical order. Archive is leaps and bounds better than a negative aura. The Steppe was replaced with a much more useful scry land. Ghost Quarter wasn't pulling weight anymore so I replaced it with the new Canopy Vista I pulled. Last, but certainly not least, Emmara was finally replaced with the incredibly lovely and fun Avacyn.

(As an aside, I am quite thrilled my full art Condemn and Harmonize can be seen in their full glory now.)

I hope to make more tweaks soon! Thanks everyone!
