So, The Izzet league took home another first place last night at FNM in a modern tournament interestingly enough. So here's a short little run down of the night, keep in mind that I live in a very small town with very few magic players, so there are a lot of weird decks that are played because that's all there is available. So with that out of the way here's the run down.
Round 1 V.S Mono-black devotion: I know this matchup inside and out and its a fight that I can win very easily, not much to say other than I bolted every Pack Rat I saw purely out of spite.
Round 2 V.S R/W Burn: This matchup was a bit more challenging but I managed to pull through for a 2-1 win. It probably would have been a 2-0 win but I cracked a Elixir of Immortality too hastily and he had the Skullcrack in hand just for it. Swan Song proved to be an all-star yet again as it countered his helix's and boros charms in game three, and made quick work of his offensive capabilities.
Round 3 V.S artifact eggs? This round I don't really know how to describe it, This was the only actual "modern" deck I had to face, and it was extremely weird. I'm familiar with how eggs work but this was just a very odd take on it. a lot of Phyrexian Metamorph and other various eggs that ramped his storm count into infinity and then Grapeshot. It caught me off in game 1, however game 2&3 I just held back a Counterflux at all times and the rest was fairly easy, albeit tedious.
So that was a short summary of my FNM this week, Very strange compared to previous FNM's but again, nothing the Izzet League can't handle. And we got to take home a shiny Soul of Zendikar as a prize for first place. Until next time, praise Niv-mizzet and his genius will shine down unto you, through fire, lightning and pure genius, the Izzet League lives on!
