Procrastination/ Comment Purge: —April 14, 2015

Sorry guys, I know some of you have been waiting to see what cards from Dragons of Tarkir I will be adding to Machinations of the Draconian. Life has been keeping me busy, so I haven't been able to deck test like I normally do. Hopefully I can have it ready for you guys soon.

Also, it needed a comment purge. 90+ comments... I know I let it get out of hand.

i'm curious why no Crucible of the Spirit Dragon for some more ramping into dragons.

Ezereth: Thanks for the comment! I'm not a big fan of the storage lands, even if it does add a bit of flavor to the deck. They're slow and unreliable, in my opinion. It also doesn't help that I have an already well rounded mana base. Thank you for the suggestion, though :)

Intet, the Dreamer is another dragon you could run, along with Crosis, the Purger.

I would main Atarka, World Render and Scourge of the Throne, I think they are good cards and worth running if you can.

Remove the creature Nicol bolas, I know he has flavor and all but the upkeep cost is very high. Those are just my preferences, really there is very little else i would change with this deck, maybe add in Swiftfoot Boots and Whip of Erebos if you can. and perhaps Living Death and that other card which can bring back all creatures of a single type from your grave to the battle field.

succeeddamnyou: Thanks for the suggestions!

Intet, the Dreamer is more of a hit or miss, and unfortunately, I miss often lol. Nicol Bolas is superior to Crosis, the Purger, and I don't have the space to run both.

I would love to main Atarka, World Render and Scourge of the Throne, but I just don't seem to have the space. Any suggestions on what to take out and I'm all ears.

I don't keep Bolas in play. He's used when Scion of the Ur-Dragon attacks and nothing else. I already have a Lightning Greaves, so I don't think Swiftfoot Boots is necessary. I dislike Living Death and Patriarch's Bidding, as they both allow my opponents to reanimate things as well.

Thank you for the comments and suggestions!

When I first saw it I fell in love with Destructor Dragon but then I realized it was only when he died and I felt like how you feel when you wake up the next morning and realize that 10 you met at the bar and went home with last night was actually a 1 with no teeth and a lazy eye

Kozelek Haha, man! Quite the analogy!

I rather like Destructor Dragon. I use it similarly to how I use Yosei, the Morning Star and Keiga, the Tide Star. If you manage to catch me off guard and destroy Scion of the Ur-Dragon, it'll come at a price.

As always, thanks for the input. It's always appreciated!

I can see it working with feldon too now that I looked at your deck list again

I also have a scion deck How to Train Ur-Dragon. The reason you don't really want to run Crosis, the Purger and all his friends is because they have a 3 CMC activation cost which means that on your turn you attack with scion, if he lands a hit you turn him in to Crosis, the Purger and activate the ability, the total of that is 5 then you need to keep 2 or 3 mana available to change scion into a defensive or star dragon in response to a removal, so on your turn you can do anything else. With all of that said this deck is very mana hungry and you simply can't afford the activation cost.

Nicol Bolas is a power house... and you don't have to pay his upkeep. just swing with scion and see what your opponent does. if he block turn scion into a trampling beast like Dragon Tyrant who will kill the blocker and still bring some pain. but if your opponent takes it in the face you can choose how you want to punish him. Do you want to kill all of his guys with Balefire Dragon, take another attack phase with Scourge of the Throne (I think this creature belongs in here), or make him drop his whole hand with Nicol Bolas. by the time your upkeep shows up again good ol' Nick is in your bin and he is ready to be reanimated with Patriarch's Bidding or even better Rise of the Dark Realms (I think both of these cards belong, sure, Bidding allows your opponent to reanimate a guy or 2 but I can guarantee you'll benefit MUCH more then anyone else) if you have Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund in your bin you all of these FAT FATTIES come out swinin' and that usually ends the game especially if you can gain a second attack phase and or all of your dragons gain double strike.

At least this is how I run my deck.

It looks like MrAwesomeSocks runs much more spot reanimation to gain tempo and board presence. I like to fill my grave yard then go crazy with s game ending reanimation.

Yea I go full out cloning effects in mine (A Dragon by any other name blantant deck promotion) because scion is a clone

Do you know that Kokusho, the Evening Star is no longer banned? He would be beastly with feldon especially in multiplayer games

February 11, 2015 2:19 p.m.

Zer0w: That's exactly why I dislike running The Invasion and Chaos dragons. 5 mana for an effect is too much, unless that effect is lethal to at least one player.

And yes, I run more spot reanimation. Allows a quick revival of Scion so I can begin swinging again ASAP.

Why Laboratory Maniac? kind of seems pointless here, its not like you're running a Hermit Druid build.

February 17, 2015 10:11 p.m.

enpc: It's mostly for multiplayer games where I use the Curiosity + Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind combo. Laboratory Maniac does seem a bit out of place here though. Maybe I'll just side board it. Thanks for the comment!

No problem. Maybe you could look into something like Living Death instead? Get your general down, pitch all your dragons and cast that for some decent beats. I would recommend putting in High Market also. That way you can sac your general in response to it resolving.

February 17, 2015 10:21 p.m.

I've always been iffy about Living Death. I never liked allowing my opponents to reanimate something as well.

February 17, 2015 10:25 p.m.

enpc says... #17

Fair enough. Well if you can ramp into it, Rise of the Dark Realms is like a better version of it (albeit for 4 extra mana). And then you get all the things!

February 17, 2015 10:28 p.m.

I do like that idea better. Steal all the things! Lol.

February 17, 2015 10:30 p.m.

Zer0w says... #19

I still say this deck has enough ramp to support Rise of the Dark Realms 9 CMC is not that much for EDH. just toss Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund into the GY and cast "rise", attack with a mess of hasty dragons, that's gg.

February 17, 2015 10:32 p.m.

Zer0w says... #20

I was typing my comment when you guys said all that... "jinx!" :)

February 17, 2015 10:34 p.m.

enpc says... #21

If you're goingto put Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund into the deck, you need to run Homeward Path. One Phyrexian Metamorph and your deck gets wrecked.

February 17, 2015 10:35 p.m.

Zer0w says... #22

never thought of that... however the only time he really hits the field is when you mass reanimate and kill everyone. in my scion deck I just mill him into the GY before my turn some time, just to put him there. and there he sits until BAM!!! eat 8 huge dragons all with haste and double strike and I get 2 attack phases! GG suckers!

so the only way that would be a threat is if they have Leyline of Anticipation of something and cast it as a mean hater jerkface clever response to a resolved Rise of the Dark Realms

February 17, 2015 11:07 p.m.

enpc says... #23

That or Fog your out then clone it :P But yeah, if Karrthus is in your deck, make space for homeward Path. Same recommendation goes to anybody running Sliver Overlord as their general.

Also, it there any reason you're not running any basic lands?

February 17, 2015 11:16 p.m.

I never ran basics. It's always been the pain lands, then shock lands, and eventually ABUR duals.

February 17, 2015 11:21 p.m.

enpc says... #25

It just limits the kind of ramp you have access to. That and Blood Moon. But thats fair enough. Why so many signets though? wouldn't you be better off running things like Gilded Lotus / Coalition Relic, etc...?
