Modern Budget Control Infinite Combo Mono-Blue

Sideboard

THANK YOU FOR STOPPING BY!!!

So, I took a page from SaffronOlive's book with his Pili-Pala deck from about a year ago and changed things up a bit. With the addition of Thing in the Ice   in the sideboard. I am looking to stay alive to about turn 5 or 6 when I am on the slow run and also looking to combo off by turn 3 with Pili-Pala and Grand Architect.

Lets get into my reasoning for some of the cards in the deck.

Pili-Pala and Grand Architect. The Infinite Mana Combo that can go off by turn 3

Wincons:

Whispers of the Muse : Drawing my entire deck is nice.

Banefire : A non counterable amount of damage to the face. The only wincon I cannot tutor for with wither Drift of Phantasms or Muddle the Mixture, but never a dead draw.

Exsanguinate : This wincon gets around Leyline of Sanctity, and a wincon I can tutor for with Muddle the Mixture

Blue Sun's Zenith : The final wincon for the combo, it is the hardest to use MTGO ;n; other than that very solid. It can also be tutored for with Drift of Phantasms

Apostle's Blessing: Having one of these is very nice to protect the combo early and late.

Counter Spells:

Remand : The best counter spell in early turns and greatly falls off later into the game. The cantrip is very crucial as well.

Muddle the Mixture : The very lost resort for when you need to counter a spell and keep one of your combo pieces alive.

Mana Leak : I have found that counter magic is the key to keeping this combo alive. with this and Spell Pierce it helps keep me and my combo alive.

Spell Pierce: For removal heavy match-ups in the early game.

Shovels

ALL of these dig spells help with flipping Thing in the Ice

Serum Visions: The best cantrip and dig spell for this deck I feel.

Sleight of Hand: This can backfire, but very rarely.

Gitaxian Probe This card itself allows for a turn 3 flip of Thing in the Ice   and then paired with some counter magic or Vapor Snag puts your opponent on a 3 turn clock.

Swan Song : In removal heavy match-ups, this card helps a lot with protecting my combo.

Vapor Snag: To disrupt other deck and I can save my own combo with this.

Disperse: This takes away a lot of threats and keeps other combo decks from going if I can keep a counter spell up.

The Entire 75 Card list for this deck is only $112, The Mainboard is around $95.

Match 1! Me vs UW Tokens. Me 2-0

Game 1: My opponent gets me to 1 Health and taps out. The next turn I combo off and win.

Game 2: I combo off after taking 2 removal spells.

Match 2! Me vs Jund. Me 2-1

Game 1: I flip 2 Thing in the Ice  Flip and beat down to win.

Game 2: He sides in some hate and is able to keep me from comboing off.

Game 3: I got lucky and he didn't get the right lands to or draw Lightning Bolt or Terminate and I combo off early.

Match 3! Me vs Death and Taxes. Death and Taxes 2-1

Game 1: I combo off early baiting out a Path to Exile with Thing in the Ice  Flip

Game 2: He plays a Thalia and a Stony Silence and taxes me out really hard.

Game 3: We are both at 4 I got him to that with an early flipped Delver of Secrets  Flip and flipped Thing in the Ice  Flip, near I make a stupid attack and throw the game.

Match 4! Me vs WUR Burn Control (I don't know the name of this deck) Me 2-0

Game 1: After taking many Snapcaster Mage + Path to Exile or Lightning Bolt I am able to use my counter spells to my advantage and seal in the combo.

Game 2: I am able to combo off for the win again and it is because my opponent made a mistake tapping for the wrong colors and didn't leave enough up for Dispel

This result surprised me and I am so happy I did well with the deck. It gives me more confidence to go back and play with it.
