Demon Tyrant is a versatile creature based combo deck that is capable of winning the game as early as turn 2-3 with a reasonable degree of consistency. However, unlike its predecessors (SBT Combo & All Nightmare Long) this deck gives us the ability to play a reactive gameplan that can thrive in slower, more control and stax oriented pods. This is because unlike other SBT brews, we do not utilize card intensive combos (i.e Hermit Druid; Necrotic Ooze) which gives us the freedom to beef up our interaction package.  Despite devoting less slots to combo pieces, we still have numerous overlapping lines to victory which include:

Flash+Protean Hulk or Entomb+Necromancy for Hulk Combo

Food Chain+Eternal Scourge for Food chain combo

Buried Alive+Reanimate To utilize Razaketh, the Foulblooded to end the game with Food Chain or Hulk combo for no additional mana.

Notion Thief+Windfall because both cards are good on their own, fit our more interactive theme, and the result when they are mixed is just wonderful.

Laboratory Maniac+Tainted Pact because folding to gravehate and/or losing walking ballista is lame.

With the printing of partner commanders every BUG commander has to have a good answer to the inevtable "Why not play Thrasios, who is an infinite mana outlet and draw engine on a 2 drop creature and who also gives us a 4th color?

Our primary answer to this in the past is that SBT is a Food Chain outlet. However, if that is her only advantage General Tazri is strictly better. For previous brews the response to this was that SBT does a multicombo deck slightly better since her outlets and support cards are useful for other combos, but in this particular deck we have another strong reason to play SBT. Within a Raz reanimator deck she is an excellent facilitator. She can combine with top deck tutors (i.e Worldly Tutor; Lim-Dul's Vault; Vampiric Tutor; Imperial Seal) or Brainstorm to dump game winning reanimation targets into the grave for free when she attacks, while at the same time getting us to a critical mass of creatures in play for Razaketh to end the game. For instance, lets say we have an opener with a fast mana source (ex. Chrome Mox) a turn 1 dork, Worldly Tutor and a reanimation spell. Normally the path to victory would be janky and slow. However, with SBT you can turn 1 dork; turn 2 mox and SBT; Turn 3 worldly tutor attack with SBT mill Raz into the grave and reanimate him ftw.

SBT also allows us to dig for combo pieces and get them to hand with our solid recursion package (i.e Regrowth; Eternal Witness; Noxious Revival) and fill the graveyard for our graveyard size matters cards (i.e. Jace, Vryn's Prodigy  ; Cephalid Coliseum; Cabal Pit). Often casting SBT will net us three bodies and a combo piece where it needs to be to win by the following turn, which is very reasonable for four mana. SBT's suprising effectiveness and synergy with Razaketh gives her a edge over other powerful options (i.e Thrasios & Tazri).

This card singlehandedly makes BUG reanimator a thing again. Prior to the Hulk unban and Raz being spoiled the only worthy reanimation target in our color scheme was Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur and Jin is much better in the early game as a must answer threat.  Jin becomes far less threatening as the game goes long and opponents can simply combo off on their turn and avoid the forced discard at endstep.  Raz has the opposite strengths and limitations.  Reanimating him on turn 1-2 will usually do very little, but turn 3 or later he will end the game in short order.  He works particularly well for SBT because of how well he facilitates flash hulk and food chain as both are very mana efficient 2 card combos.  Once you have 2-3 creatures on the battlefield, getting Raz into play will easily lead to a victory that turn.  Raz makes SBT a much better card to cast in general as she can provide us with extra bodies to work with.  He also has great synergy with Protean Hulk even if the hulk pile is no longer viable.

Two Land, No creatures in play, SBT Raz Buried Alive combo:

1) Without making your land drop cast Buried Alive and search your library for Phantasmal Image, Phyrexian Delver, and Razaketh, the Foulblooded

2) Cast Reanimate targeting delver who reanimates image, which copies delver and reanimates Raz (lose 15 life).

3) Sac Delver to Raz grab and play Gaea's Cradle tap for GG.

4) Sac image to Raz grab and play Life floating G.

5) Now sac Cradle and other two lands for either:

Lotus Petal+ Flash+Protean Hulk

OR

Mana Crypt+Eternal Scourge+Food Chain

Either scenario will end the game.

If you lack a land drop but have a creature in play you can also win at 3 lands for no additional mana with this pile by grabbing Elvish Spirit Guide to cast Life instead of Gaea's Cradle which will net 4 creatures total which is sufficient to end the game.

Flash Hulk is the most mana efficient combo in cEDH. While we lack some of the options available to 4 color lists, our pile is still instant speed which allows us to use an endstep Necromancy to win the game the turn we reanimate Hulk.

To win the game we first grab Phyrexian Delver and Viscera Seer. Delver reanimates Hulk and then we sacrafice it again with seer.  From there we grab Mikaeus, the Unhallowed and Walking Ballista which allows us to sac ballista with seer and mike brings it back with a +1/+1 counter.  Remove the counter to ping an opponent then sac ballista with seer again to ping again.  Repeat until each opponent is dead.  Since Ballista is our primary food chain outlet, Delver is key to our buried alive and survival of the fittest lines, and Seer can be used to kill hulk or serve as sac fodder to Raz, the only truly dead card in our hulk pile is Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, which is pretty sexy for a two mana two card combo.

To hard cast Food Chain and Eternal Scourge it technically costs (, however, we will usually only pay or since one drop mana dorks and two drop utility creatures serve as excellent Food Chain fodder on turn 3.  This provides us with the luxury of tutoring for Food Chain or Eternal Scourge on turn 1 or 2 and still assemble both halves of the combo on turn 3.  Food Chain will win the game with no extra mana or cards in hand required like so...

Once we have Food Chain+Eternal Scourge in play together we can exile scourge with FC and recast it from exile infinitely to produce infinite colored mana FOR CREATURES ONLY (NOT CREATURE ABILITIES).  Then cast, exile, and recast Sidisi, Brood Tyrant in the same manner to mill enough of our library to reveal Dread Return and the necessary combo pieces. This process will also produce a small army of zombies.  At this point we can flashback Dread Return to reanimate Eternal Witness to return Walking Ballista to hand, cast it for a billion with Food Chain mana and ping until opponents are good and dead.

If we lose ballista or eternal witness, we can utilize Razaketh as an outlet to get Laboratory Maniac into play and draw a card using the fast mana and draw spells he can get us with SBT'S zombies.

Updates Add

With our new Buried Alive+Reanimate line that was made possible by ShaperSavant's Life / Death/Gaea's Cradle tech, the deck is much faster since Razaketh can end the game with 2-3 creatures in play.  Turn 2-3 wins are now as common as turn 4 victories (in a vacuum) and turn 5-6 wins are quickly becoming a rarity.  This deck still plays a solid reactive/interactive gameplan but since we are already one of the faster decks in the format characterizing Demon Tyrant as midrange is not really accurate anymore.
