Maybeboard

An anti-meta deck. My current competition is Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain Cheerios/eggs, Kess Scepter (notably not storm), Food Chain Tazri, Selvala, Explorer Returned elfball, and to a lesser extent Brago stax, Ruric Thar stax, and Ghave/Ashnod's Altar combo.

What's the big idea?

My meta is currently dominated by fast combo, and I figured it was time to slow things down a bit. The central conceit of this deck is to play as many relevant and hateful effects as I could possibly fit onto creatures, with the rest mostly tied up in enchantments.

Winning the Game

Plan A is to grind the game to a halt and beat down. While that wouldn't normally be a viable strategy, strangling the table's resources and running such a dense creature package puts it in reach. There's also a combo line available with Kiki-Jiki and Zealous Conscripts.

Questions and Answers

Q: Why are you running Saskia? Aren't Tana + Tymna strictly better?
A: They are, but partners were a bullshit, terrible design choice that fundamentally ruined format diversity, and I want no part in it. Saskia gives me my colors, a beater that passes the Bolt test, and a way to aggressively push extra damage onto my opponents.

Q: Isn't this just a worse Blood Pod?
A: Kind of, yes, but it's specifically designed for my meta and exclusively uses cards I own.

Q: Wait, then why are you running Tymna in the 99?
A: Partners are bullshit in the command zone, not in the main deck. In the 99, the word "partner" is just flavor text. Flavor for a shit sundae.

Q: Aren't you super weak to Tabernacle?
A: Everyone is weak to hefty wallets, but we can answer Tabernacle (or convincing facsimiles) with Strip Mine, Wasteland, or salty tears.

Q: You're not running Contamination, Blood Sun or Choke?
A: I can't reliably feed Contamination, and Choke hurts blue players in ways I don't like--I have essentially no stack interaction, and keeping the blue guy from countering a game-winning combo piece is a good way to lose games. Blood Sun would be a much better inclusion if someone shows up with a Tabernacle, and that seems unlikely at this point.

Q: How do you handle Wrath effects?
A: Currently, I'm heavily reliant on Wrap in Vigor or Thought-Knot Seer. There's probably a compelling argument to be made for adding another slot into the mix to help address that weakness, but I want to test things where they stand before I dick about too much. I'd ultimately like to try Selfless Spirit over Wrap in Vigor, but I don't own one at the moment

Q: Wait a second. Mind Twist?
A: There are few better ways to put an opponent dead in the water, and the deck is capable of generating enough mana to fuel X=7 fairly easily, especially since a number of the creatures enter off of Yisan or Birthing Pod rather than traditional casting.

Q: Have you considered running _?
A: Maybe, maybe not. Feel free to suggest it.
