Maybeboard

Enchantment (1)

Creature (1)

A human tempo deck. Full of powerful ETB effects with the power to capitalize on it, through various reanimator effects.

I originally came up with this deck as a way to solve Seance, because sometimes cards appear so bad at face value that I need to build a deck to prove myself wrong. And why not build Human tribal, too, while we're at it, since that is the flavor of Seance. Built around the self-mill Humans of Innistrad (Deranged Assistant being one of my favorite cards of all time) and powerful tempo Humans (if Reflector Mage is good enough to ban in Standard...), I decided I was happy when this deck wrecked pretty much everything else I had, except my mill deck.
This deck works in three phases: in the early game, discard and fill the grave. In the middle turns, play Humans with tempo abilities, stall the board, and fill up your side of the board. In the late game, play Seance and suddenly reanimate all the ancestors that died earlier in the game. In particular:

We utilize Deranged Assistant, Wharf Infiltrator , and Reckless Scholar to fill our grave with creatures on our own terms. 60% of our deck doesn't mind being discarded or milled, from Flashback instants to creatures we can reanimate. Dearly Departed deserves a shoutout, because we love to have it in the grave from the start, buffing all our Humans like crazy.

In the late game, Seance is free reanimation to activate ETB abilities, even during the opponent's upkeep. The graveyard becomes a toolbox, with Thalia's Lieutenant, Reflector Mage, and Gigantomancer being the most common creatures to reanimate. Other options are Cloudblazer, Spire Patrol , and Riders of Gavony . The primary win condition is to lock out the opponent with ETB control and hit with buffed-up, evasive Humans. For extra-spicy tech, I added in Growing Ranks, since we can stack the upkeep triggers so that we get two Reflector Mages for free on our turn, and one sticks around.

After playing this deck as often as I could, I realized there are some great synergies here that don't initially come to the surface. For example:

Wharf Infiltrator 's Horror tokens synergize well with Growing Ranks, even if we're still in the midgame and don't have anything good in our grave.

Deranged Assistant is phenomenal, even when we're land-flooded, because we can just ramp out Gigantomancer .

Saving Grasp is in here as a tempo move on our opponent, especially because many of our engines are fragile. Did our Wharf Infiltrator get Fatal Pushed? Just save it. It's even better with Thalia's Lieutenant or other ETB abilities.

Heron's Grace Champion is in as a combat trick and lifegain against aggressive decks.

Pretty much everything else in here is in for flavor reasons or just personal choice.

All feedback is welcome. Thanks!
