The Deck

This is my aristocrat-style token/life-gain multiplayer commander deck led primarily by Krav, the Unredeemed followed by his partner Regna, the Redeemer. With token generation being the primary focus to fuel Krav and life gain as a secondary support for Regna, the continuous cycle of life, death, and rebirth is simulated. Although unassuming, this dynamic duo is able to compete in a 75% pod without breaking a sweat as well as feeling right at home in a casual pod.

The advantage of running partners is that the library is now 98 cards instead of 99. This is an important detail to note as it effectively gives me a virtual advantage in land count. For example, with a deck that benefits from running 37-38 lands, I can get away with running 36 to get virtually the same statistical variance in a 99 card deck. While not significant, having this slight advantage is always a plus.

Piloting the Deck

I've tuned this deck to function perfectly fine without casting any of my commanders because both commanders are expensive and reliance on commanders to execute a gameplan is highly risky in my pod. However, the deck is enhanced greatly with either commanders in play. In general, treat Krav as a card draw spell and Regna as a token engine in the commandzone that is only cast when the appropriate situation arise. There are several key cards in the deck that makes this possible. A consistent token generator like Bitterblossom or a utility creature like Reassembling Skeleton is always top priority early game. Skullclamp is almost always my tutor target as it keeps my engine going while adding significant card advantage the more tokens I have in play. A sac outlet like Viscera Seer is the other important piece of the engine that I want to get online ASAP. With token generators, card draw, and sac outlet in play, I am almost guaranteed to outpace everyone in card advantage and board presence. When the appropriate situation arise where I do not get my engine online by mid game, Krav, the Unredeemed or Regna, the Redeemer becomes an important piece of the strategy to get the engine going.

Updates Add

With the printing of Yawgmoth, Thran Physician, there is really no reason to run a less efficient aristocrat engine anymore. Therefore I am retiring this deck (till further notice) and converting it to Yawgmoth. Feel free to check it out:
