This is my pauper submission for Rogue Master Brewers September 2018 challenge

This deck might appear to be an affinity list at first glance but it plays very differently. The idea is to drop glaze fiend or salivating gremlins and play as many free artifacts as possible per turn to pump them up. Some of those free artifacts just so happen to be affinity creatures. Since almost every permanent in the deck is an artifact (lands included) they get big pretty quickly. The deck also tries to draw a lot of cards so it's not hard to replace creatures which have been bolted. You can steal games out of nowhere by chaining free artifacts with the help of etherium sculptor and drawing cards to pump your creatures to huge sizes.

After a lot of playtesting, the glint hawks were added in for situations where the deck runs out of steam. They are quite versatile, they trade with delver, they can give a myr enforcer vigilance, they can draw an extra card with prophetic prism, they can further pump up your creatures, and they can play the tempo game by returning a turn 1 lotus petal to your hand.

A fun and whacky change you can make to this deck is to use 4 reckless fireweavers, combined with a sigil of sleep, to return an opponent's creature to hand for each 1 damage fireweaver does. It should be possible to clear most of their board this way. Just make sure you only play it when the opponent is tapped out.

Other card substitution options are rush of knowledge and somber hovergaurds, this combined with myr enforcers should help you redraw a new hand.

The sideboard probably needs some refinement but it should be versatile enough against the current meta.

Some playing tips:

  • Use the one drop artifacts as cantrips whenever you can, you want to play as many artifacts to pump the fiend and gremlins before they get bolted. I often try to predict what color mana I will need for my next draw based on what I've already played. A lot of the time you will draw what you expect. Sacking a chromatic sphere and following with a thoughtcast is a powerful play as it can give you more one drop artifacts or frogmites/enforcers to pump your guys.

  • The order you play spells in should have the ultimate goal of maximizing the number of artifacts you play to pump your creatures.

  • Hold your artifacts if you know your opponent will block a glaze fiend, no need to waste more artifacts than necessary. On the contrary, always attack with salivating gremlins and pump them as much as you can since they have trample. Don't worry about losing them in combat.

  • Play fiends before etherium sculptors.

  • The most powerful play is a turn one glaze fiend using lotus petal. You can easily steal a game in 4 turns.

  • Try to draw as many cards as you can.

  • Try to have 2 sources of mana in your opening hand and make sure you can use them to play things you drew. Mulligan if you don't.

  • Use reaping the graves in the late game against removal, you should be able to return 2 or 3 creatures to your hand.

  • Use standard bearers against Bogles

  • Haven't done much play-testing against goblins but the matchup can be difficult. I imagine elves can present an issue too. Krark-Clan Shamans should help in this matchup.

  • Be careful playing against black decks with removal, you don't want to pump your guys with your whole hand only to lose them.

Enjoy :)
