FNM —Oct. 22, 2012

Took this deck to FNM this Friday, I did not do well.

Match 1: I was up against a jank Bant control deck.

Game1: The first game took a very long time, we were both throwing down detention spheres and o-rings and I was throwing down martial laws and even got the curse of exhaustion down, and I got him down to about 3 life and was sitting pretty at 17 life. Then he got rid of the Curse and played Sphinx's Revelation for a lot and throw down too many things. He took game 1.

Game 2: I got out a Fencing Ace with a spectral flight and an Ethereal Armor and swung in for ten. He got rid of it. I dropped a Geist, and threw a couple enchantments on him and eventually swung in for the game.

Game 3: I got mana screwed and he took the game easily.

Match 2: I got a buy.

Match 3: I was up against G/W Martial Law deck.

He won 2-0 because I had mana issues both games.

Match 4: I went up against a U/R Mid-Range.

Game 1: I won with a Fencing Ace and a Geist, he also had some mana issues.

Game 2: This was a close battle all the way through, he won with a combo involving two Guttersnipes a Pillar of Flame and a Syncopate for 0 for the win.

Game 3: Another close round, I couldn't draw creatures all I could get were martial laws, and other enchantments, land and a creature every so often. He eventually got enough board presence to sweep throw all my enchatments for the game and the match.

What I am changing: I am going to be removing the Dungeon Geists and the Righteous Authortiys for different cards. I am going to try out New Prahv Guildmage and Azorius Charm.

The Dungeon Geist were, more often then not, just a dead card in my hand, and Fiend Hunters were just so much better.

As for the Righteous Authoritys, I just really wanted them to be good, but they weren't helpful at all. There are far better cards to put in place of them.

i heard that a Sphere of Safety deck was going to be huge and that a team is going to take it to nationals but i heard it was going to be a bant deck with Abundant Growth for card advantage i like what you have done here i have been thinking about making one as well

This deck impresses me. This has been the first deck that has the potential to knock out the Turbo Red Deck (My current deck of choice).

I'll be honest, I don't like Nimbis of the Mist here. It seems to want to tap down things that probably won't exist, and you don't have the bounce to make it all that great. I'd pull it, and add either Latch Seeker or Arctic Avian. Better still, up your curve a little and play Skymark Roc instead, for more tempo play.

You know I've been looking for something to replace the Niblis of the Mist. It really doesn't fit in this deck very well. Skymark might be the thing to replace it.

Thanks for the help and the compliment!

Too many 2-ofs. This deck won't be consistent as it currently stands.

Needs more lands, too. I'd be running 24, probably 25.

if possible, i'd ditch the Latch Seeker altogether and go 4x Geist of Saint Traft . While the unblockable is great for your buffs, you play Ethereal Armor which protects the geist during an attack. This also helps with sticking your bigger enchantments, because the geist has hexproof. that being said, Divine Favor could come out for a 4th Ethereal Armor . I like the 1 of Curse of Exhaustion , i like the Oblivion Ring /Detention Sphere s, i like the Spectral Flight (never thought i'd be saying that) but when it comes to enchantment decks, look for hexproof creatures so that your Righteous Authority s will stick (perhaps invisible stalker to replace latch seeker if the geists aren't happening).Just things for tuning: i'd lose the Tricks of the Trade and go +2 spectral flight, lose the Archon of the Triumvirate and go either +1 Oblivion Ring or Detention Sphere . removal will be everything. Maybe mainboard Soul Tithe so that you can knock aggro decks off tempo?

All together the deck looks pretty solid. The only issue i can see is major board wipes (Which Bruna, Light of Alabaster sort of solves for you) and controlling the early game.

That divine favor was not supposed to be in there haha. I like the idea of 4 Geists and if I can get my hands on them I'll probably go that route. For now I'll put it at 3 Geists and 3 Artic Avens.

I've been meaning to take out the Triumvate, it just wasnt doing well in playtests. I throw in a 4th Armor and a 3rd Spectral Flight.

Thanks for the help.

I am making a bit more of an aggressive deck by adding in Fencing Ace

I really like this deck so +1 from me. Just wondering though, do you think this deck can do well or hold its own in FNM? Sorry if that is a dumb question, but I'm trying to make a U/W deck as well and want it to be competitive.

As soon as I get the cards and build this deck, I will be taking it to FNM and will post updates.

I do believe that this deck can be competitive once I get down the perfect formula.

I took out the Niblis and the skymarks for another fiend hunter and 3 fencing aces. This is to make this deck a bit more aggressive.

Good late board wipe for any blue control is Cyclonic Rift . 7 mana to bounce everything but their lands is a great deal, plus instant speed allows you to use it when ever you need to.(in response to a mass attack or right after they tap themselves out)

October 15, 2012 11:55 a.m.

Theres a good idea!

Any recommended substitutions for Geist of Saint Traft for those who are on a budget?

October 15, 2012 5:53 p.m.

ChuckLee says... #20

Uhm, Invisible Stalker maybe or just up the Fencing Ace Arctic Aven and Fiend Hunter s up to 4x each. or go 3or 4 card:Judge's Familiar

October 15, 2012 6:49 p.m.

olihot says... #21

You would really benefit from green in there. I think of Rancor, Abundant Growth and another hexproof creature, Sigarda, Host of Herons. You would then be able to remove easily killed creatures like Fencing Ace, Fiend Hunter, Dungeon Geists and Judge's Familiar. Righteous Authority does not do enough for 5 cmc and I think that Curse of Exhaustion is not so good against every deck.

October 15, 2012 8:34 p.m.

ChuckLee says... #22

I am not sure green is worth it, but I'm trying it out, over here Safety Light(Bant Version) needs work. come help me out.

As for the easily killed creatures. It is true that they are easily killed but, the Fencing Ace is a possible win condition. The Hunters and the Dungeon Geists are just more lock down. Righteous Authourity will get you out of a bind but I might take it out eventually. As for the Curse of Exhaustion, it is a 1 of for a reason. and it is good against most decks, so your argument is invalid.

October 15, 2012 9:04 p.m.

card:Sphinx's Revelation for card draw/life gain could be good in this. and as an instant, you could do it on their turn.

October 16, 2012 5:05 a.m.

ChuckLee says... #24

Yeah the Revelation may be something to look into.
