Lovers of sacrifice and graveyard matters: hello everyone! Welcome to my primer for Meren of Clan Nel Toth !

The goal of the deck is to land a Protean Hulk and trigger it once to win the game through the Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Walking Ballista combo. A sac outlet is required to sac Walking Ballista and take it back for Mikaeus’ undying trigger. So, resolving the protean hulk trigger you have to tutor for Viscera Seer or Carrion Feeder and Phyrexian Delver . With delver now you can reanimate hulk, sac it to Viscera seer and fetch for Mike and Ballista to assemble the combo.

Razaketh, the Foulblooded is your best friend, and probably the most badass card in the whole deck (behind Spore Frog , I mean). He can win the game alone. When he lands the battlefield, you can sac a random creature (even Meren, if necessary) to tutor for Life / Death , cast life for a green mana and now you can sac your lands for all you need to win. If you are tappedout you can tutor for Lotus Petal , Dark Ritual Entomb and something like Animate Dead to get the Protean hulk and kill it with Razaketh. If Hulk is stuck in hand Body Snatcher is very useful to discard it to the yard to reanimate it next. You can just use LED over Lotus Petal and Dark Ritual if you are richer than me.

Most recommended cards: Pattern of Rebirth , Natural Order and Entomb into any reanimate are probably the best card of the deck (behind Caustic Caterpillar , I mean), because they can steal wins out of nowhere.

But this deck is not just good to combo off, because hey! It’s a Meren deck! When your hand is not that fast and you don’t have a good line to assemble the combo, or opponents use all of their interactions to counter your first attempts to go off, here Meren comes to make your deck grindy. Meren is basically a value engine. With her you can recicle over and over and over cards like Plaguecrafter , Caustic Caterpillar , Spore Frog , Reclamation Sage to destroy your opponents’ gameplan. Discard effects like Oppression , Bottomless Pit and Mindslicer , the scariest card of the deck (behind the mighty Diligent Farmhand , I mean) are good in that sense. If you are a very bad person you can add other spicy stax like Winter Orb and Static Orb .
