Sacraficial religion (Advice would be nice)

Commander / EDH Spirits Tokens W/B (Orzhov)

Joshua_GA

Description

This deck defines sacrifice as a religion. Following with it's commander Teysa this deck is all about killing your own creatures for fun or for profit. this deck features on infinite sacrifice loop involving Sun Titan and Unhallowed Pact. Any advice on additional cards to replace in this deck or cards to remove would be greatly appreciated.

I would recommend Grave Betrayal . Not a huge fan of Stormfront Riders it is just too conditional, lacks true power. Since the deck looks like it needs more sac outlets I would recommend card:Ashnod's Altar, Attrition or Altar of Dementia (since it looks like you are running graveyard shenanigans). Carrion Beetles don't add that much at all to the deck as a whole. Mortician Beetle is a more fun replacement.

Elder Cathar is another one of those cards who is just mediocre, I would recommend spot removal spell or board wipe in his place. Selfless Cathar only helps once, but I feel it could be better replace with Blood Artist .

You could remove some of the cards which only remove creature from graveyards but do nothing else for something like card:Necromancer's Covenant. Also Geth, Lord of the Vault could come in handy for getting more sac outlets.

I was already looking at getting grave betrayal . I took out stormfront riders, selfless cathar, elder cather, and carrion beetles and replaced them with oblivion ring, cellar door, path to exile, and thoughtpicker witch. I am thinking about adding a lilliana of the veil.

What is your budget for this deck because I also recommend Grave Titan and Beacon of Unrest . Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter would also work in this decks them fairly well.

Luminarch Ascension could also work well to creature strong tokens for either attack or using as a sac outlet.

My brother sent me all four EDH playable titans through the mail so I should be getting a grave titan soon. I just ordered geth, both alters and grave betrayal. My budget is kind of low since I am in collage. The most I can pay for a card is around 5 dollars with a few exceptions

I am also getting Liliana Vess and Leyline of the void. Would you advise adding the leyline?

December 6, 2012 10:10 p.m.

Hmmm Leyline of the Void is a hard card for me to judge, since it really depends on the decks which you commonly play against. Do they use a lot of graveyard tactics?

Along with that Mikaeus, the Unhallowed is absolutely wonderful in a graveyard deck.

December 6, 2012 10:15 p.m.

Joshua_GA says... #7

The main problem with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed in my deck is that he only protects non humans. I ran this deck before then broke it down but my brother liked it so I remade it adding some new cards that I had. Advice on my Riku deck would be appreciated also if you can.

Why Elspeth, Knight-Errant and not Elspeth Tirel ? Hoping for the ultimate?

You could also consider such cards as Thraben Doomsayer , Geist-Honored Monk , Requiem Angel , Knight-Captain of Eos and Captain of the Watch .

And if you wanna nerf people before they go nuclear, play Identity Crisis . Sure, it's a one-off, but if timed properly it makes a player lose.

December 7, 2012 4:04 p.m.

Joshua_GA says... #9

As far as Elspeths goes I only own the one and I do have Geist-Honored Monk but the others I do not have and might consider getting. I was mainly considering Requiem Angel for its ability to produce tokens.

Nim Deathmantle + card:Ashnod's Altar + (Grave Titan / Skeletal Vampire / Knight-Captain of Eos ) = infinite. Angelic Renewal can also go infinite with Sun Titan , I see you already have Unhallowed Pact . Then there's always that zzz staple Karmic Guide + Reveillark shit.

I don't like the presence of dumb beaters or negligible effects: Unruly Mob , Doomed Traveler , Undertaker , Onyx Mage , card:Gideon's Avenger, and Bloodflow Connoisseur , Undying Evil , Elixir of Immortality , Goldnight Commander , wouldn't be missed. Oblivion Ring isn't as good in EDH as other formats because the card comes back to reap havoc post wipe.

Distinct lack of Demonic Tutor , Necropotence , Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite , and Mikaeus, the Unhallowed . I saw he was mentioned before, he's good, many of your humans aside from your general are not good. IMO.

All in all, I'd ask myself how I want to win and consider adds / cuts to compliment that. Right now it's just looking like you go infinite or semi-infinite with tokens. How do you live before then? I'd just use token swarm to defend or alternate win con before I went infinite.

I really like the idea of this deck and I kind of want to build one similar. I agree with Elitestgen though and you need a better win condition than just going infinite (personally I'm not a fan of going infinite, ruins the fun of a game) Some cards that I was thinking of in connection with a deck like this. Twilight Drover can become a big creature as well as a generator. Yosei, the Morning Star & Kokusho, the Evening Star are big hitters that can hurt if/when you sac them. Divinity of Pride & Deathbringer Liege are nice in a fight. If you're doing a lot of sacing then Blade of the Bloodchief can be a fun way to buff someone up. Also Spawning Pit is a good sac outlet as well as token generator. A few other token makers that I like are card:Conqueror's Pledge, Entreat the Angels , Martial Coup , card:Nomads' Assembly, Storm Herd , & card:White Sun's Zenith. I don't know what your budget is like but some of these are pretty wallet friendly :) Have fun playing :)

December 14, 2012 1:17 p.m.

I will consider getting those cards I already have a card:White Sun's Zenith and it will take me some time to get those cards.

My budget is not to high but I can slowly amass cards in the 10 dollar range. I am also thinning out the human creatures so I will be picking up a Mikaeus, the Unhallowed soon.

Since you already have one infinite combo, why not put another one in: Try Exquisite Blood and Sanguine Bond together. Gain or lose a life and the game is over. :)

I took out all the infinite combos since they are not really a fun win condition when you play them

I was looking at adding that along with Skullclamp and Infiltration Lens

Yeah, Skullclamp is freaking amazing, especially if you were to add Leonin Shikari .

What about Blood Artist and Falkenrath Noble ? You gonna like the amounts of life they can give. I'd also advise you to keep eye on Ajani, Caller of the Pride because of his ultimate.

I had both of them and took them out this deck shifted more towards aggression and spot removal

I think you have way to much creature removal, considering Teysa's removal ability. I'd cut down on that, there's a lot that could fill its place. I've got a few suggestions from my Teysa 1v1 EDH deck. First, the card Darkest Hour . It works infinitely with any sacrifice outlet. Next, you could combo Angelic Renewal with your Sun Titan with any sac outlet. Sac the Sun Titan bring it back with Angelic Renewal , then bring back Angelic Renewal with Sun Titan 's ETB ability. Another combo that is very common in BW is using Yosei, the Morning Star with Sheoldred, Whispering One , card:Debtors' Knell, or Mimic Vat . It essentially locks out one opponent every upkeep, so it can quickly solve any problem. Last is another common combo in W, Karmic Guide and Reveillark . Its another infinite combo. If you have Darkest Hour out, the infinite combos create infinte tokens. Here's some sac outlets that will win you the game instantly: Blasting Station , Altar of Dementia , card:Ashnod's Altar, Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter , and Viscera Seer .

February 9, 2013 10:11 a.m.

Joshua_GA says... #26

I have all of those sac outlets except for Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter but i got away from the infinite loops not a fun win condition and the spot removal is a nice threat by saying hey if you attack me i will kill only your creatures.. it is more of a political move.

Also I'm not completely sure but I think having two Liliana Vess's would be illegal. Even if they have a different title its still the same name.

February 10, 2013 1:29 a.m.

Joshua_GA says... #30

The Liliana's are legal since they are the same cards, my play group doesn't run eldrazi cards the Kalitas, Bloodchief of Ghet sounds pretty good so I might get him.

February 10, 2013 6:11 p.m.

EndlessLegion says... #31

I understand not wanting to play infinite combos because they are not very fun in causal games, but even in a more political deck, i still think you're a bit high on spot removal. Maybe include a mass removal like Damnation or Wrath of God in their place. Having access to mass removal spells when others don't makes you an important piece that others will rally for or against.

February 10, 2013 11:24 p.m.

Joshua_GA says... #32

Having two mass removals and a mass tuck it rather nice, I have just found through playing Child of Alara that in most situations that spot removal works better mainly because most mass removal spells are sorceries and that they will kill cards that might not even target you while spot removal will deal with the cards that are swinging at you which makes people second guess doing it again.

February 11, 2013 12:11 p.m.

mrbw says... #33

Phyrexian Rebirth is one of the few mass removals that is just mean combine that with a mass indestructible like Avacyn, Angel of Hope and it can turn a game around quick.

The average mana cost per card is over three mana. Thinl about the curve before you but a bunch of giant and OP creatures in your deck. Think about Souls of the Faultless , High Priest of Penance , Doomed Traveler and Order of the Stars . Also, Tokens works quite well with Orzhov, so think about Lingering Souls and creatures like Bloodline Keeper  Flip and Thraben Doomsayer who create tokens and ramp up your board.

February 19, 2013 4:51 p.m.

BigMonty says... #39

More tokens, so u can sack them. black tokens will be help full. Endless Ranks of the Dead Necromancer's Covenant Lingering Souls for a quick way to get white spirets on to the battle field for Teysa. Plus it flashed back, also Midnight Haunting for spirit tokens. maybe Sorin, Lord of Innistrad for his +1 (Put a 1/1 black Vampire creature token with lifelink onto the battlefield.)

of sourse these are just some ideas take them if u want. i run Teysa my self in Go head, kill'em for all I care.

March 4, 2013 2:31 p.m.

Joshua_GA says... #40

This deck was originally heavy token oriented but I found that in my play group that it was better to not use the tokens I am going to get a sorin but I am going to get it in the duel deck since it is cheaper that way and they normally come with some other goodies

March 4, 2013 6:59 p.m.

yeah im going to buy that as well, i like Sorin, and i love Black White. 20 buck fro good black white and a some good Red for trade. Hell im in haha.

Vampiric Rites, Ophiomancer, Secure the Wastes all have some potential here.

January 2, 2016 1:34 p.m.

If you are running Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, might as well get Cabal Coffers. You should throw in Dictate of Erebos also, you have probably to much single target creature removal. Your commander already gets rid of things, you don't really need 8 other spot removal. Sign in Blood is crap, there are much better ways to gain card advantage like Greed. Umezawa's Jitte I feel doesn't belong in here IMO.

Maybe you could give your opinion on my deck that's similar? Ayli

April 2, 2016 10:55 p.m.

Also, since you said you aren't going the tokens route Twilight Shepherd is great you can sac 3 of your white creatures, then play her, then get them back to your hand. Also I feel like Crypt Ghast is a must in every deck with black

April 2, 2016 11:06 p.m.

metalevolence says... #46

This looks fun, and I like how much removal and sweepers you run. I would just tune it up a bit. I'd remove some of the random creatures, add better card draw options, and a bit more mana ramp.

out: vampire nighthawk, mirri the cursed, journeyer's kite, sign in blood, some combination of lord of the void/angelic arbiter/necropolis regent/victory's herald/angelic skirmisher/sunblast angel

in: Read the Bones, Night's Whisper, Ancient Craving/Ambition's Cost, Fellwar Stone, Gift of Estates, Debt to the Deathless, Dictate of Erebos

manalith < Commander's Sphere

Gift of estates is a budget alternative to Land Tax/Tithe but still really great. Definitely don't need to be running journeyer's kite.

Also I just noticed you haven't posted in 3 years, thanks for showing me this deck tappedout.

April 7, 2016 8:39 a.m.

mortilus says... #47

Replace Journeyer's Kite with Burnished Hart. For one mana more, you get 2 lands into play, versus 1 land into hand.

October 17, 2016 12:09 a.m.

Karmic Guide and Reveillark and your commander give you infinite creature removal.Darkest Hour and your commander gives infinite sac fodder if you have an outlet
