Based on ruminations by Frank Lepore of ChannelFireball on a deck by Adam Bialkowski and trying to make Vance's Blasting Cannons
more consistent in the deck by running Spark of Creativity.
Basically a red white semi-control deck leading into an Approach of the Second Sun finish supported by Sunbird's Invocation.
Early control cards include Spark of Creativity, Sweltering Suns and Gideon of the Trials. In the midgame Fumigate is the key card but you also have things like Cast Out, Angel of Condemnation, Angel of Sanctions, and Gideon's Intervention. The Chandra and Huatli planeswalkers can pitch in too though that's not their main role.
Sunscourge Champion is a tempo play at the three spot to help bridge between early and mid game.
If there's a deck that can make Vance's Blasting Cannons
flip reasonably consistently, it's got to be a deck with Sunbird's Invocation, Chandra, Torch of Defiance, and Spark of Creativity in it.
You'll probably have to practice a bit with Spark of Creativity before you understand how best to use it. It seems awkward as a control spell, but the value it brings as a deck filter (especially in an Approach deck, and especially in a deck that really, really does not want to miss a land drop) is quite underrated. Often you cast Spark without really wanting to kill the target, so long as you're prepared to play any land that the Spark might reveal.
Trying out one Nicol Bolas, God-Pharaoh since it has a bit of synergy with what the deck is doing. Not sure what mana base is best to support splashing it, but two Crypt of the Eternals and 4 cycling lands seem to be ok in tests so far. But the ideal way to get him into play is off of the Sunbird trigger from an Approach. And Bolas doesn't seem all that op anyway, so maybe something like a The Scarab God or even Vona, Butcher of Magan is better for a black/blue splash.
