Sideboard

I'm still working on the card ratios in this deck. Trying to fit Apostle's Blessing and Fling in the main deck. The description below is representative of the deck in the past.

This deck is very similar to Pauper Kiln Fiend except I feel like it sacrifices burst potential for much more adaptability which really appeals to the way I play.

THE CORE:

  • The Landfall trio of Steppe Lynx, Akoum Hellhound, and Plated Geopede have incredible potential and are very adaptable to the defenses presented by an opponent. They're the core of this deck and (with the exception of removal and basic lands) the rest of the cards in the deck are meant to support or mimic these cards.

  • Temur Battle Rage has proven it's salt in Kiln Fiend and makes an appearance in this deck as well. The creatures in this deck easily achieve trample through the ferocious effect of Temur Battle Rage with 2 Landfall triggers. The consistent damage that the Landfall creatures present help make Temur Battle Rage an easy alpha-strike.

  • Evolving Wilds, Terramorphic Expanse, and Naya Panorama allow you to trigger landfall multiple times in a turn (if you need to!) and are the backbone of the landfall core. Note that you really don't need to use your fetch lands unless one or more of these situations apply:

1 You need mana next turn - Never rely on drawing a basic land off the top of your deck.

2 You need to get more swole than an opponent's blocker - 4/4 decides to step in front of your 2/3? Get big!

3 Protection from Lightning Bolt - If your opponent is up to instant-speed shenanigans during your own turn you can stop them with an Evolving Wilds or Terramorphic Expanse! If you pop that fetch land early for a couple extra damage and your opponent lightning bolts your 2/3 or 3/3 then you lose so many resources. It's best to save it.

4 ALPHA!!! - If you think you can win the game by using the fetch land you should probably do that.

THE SUPPORT:

Adventuring Gear and Zektar Shrine Expedition are two other Landfall cards but they aren't included in the core of the deck because they are supplementary in function.

  • Adventuring Gear can either mimic a Landfall creature when equipped on something else or buff your Landfall creatures beyond Ulamog's Crusher - Now THAT'S a BIG kitty/puppy/worm.

  • Zektar Shrine Expedition does something very unique as an enchantment and it does it alone. After triggering Landfall 3 times the shrine can give your deck ridiculous reach but it is very vulnerable to instant-speed removal. 7 damage is one third of a player's starting life total and the token can be targeted by Temur Battle Rage. Try to activate the shrine only while your opponent is tapped-out or swing fast and wide with another beefed up creature. They can rarely kill everything in one turn!

Feel free to leave a comment or suggestion! This is my favourite Pauper deck and I'm always open to new ideas.
