Success at FNM! —Dec. 27, 2013

Since adding white to the deck, I've had a run of success at FNM. I've won 9 out of nine, knocking down decks including MeliraPod, Merfolk, KikiPod and Mortar Pod combo. Overall, I'm happy with its success. Thanks for all the help, and keep the advice flowing!

a Garruk, Caller of Beasts would be a strong addition here also have you thought about doing defender ramp instead? Overgrown Battlement - Axebane Guardian - Sylvan Caryatid makes for serious ramp, i use them in a mono green deck. On turn four i've been able to tap for thirteen mana

Loving this deck , +1 with a small suggestion,

3 Kessig Wolf Run seems excessive, have you given any thought to Inkmoth Nexus ? You can pull the nexus and a Kessig out with Prime Time, and basically win on the next turn with a X/1 flying infect with all the mana-ramping that you do.

Maybe:

-1 Kessig Wolf Run

+1 Inkmoth Nexus

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

PooPlayer I don't run defender ramp for two reasons:

  1. It's too slow. With the ramp I have at the moment, I can consistently drop a Titan on turn 3, maybe even an Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite . While defender ramp gets you more mana on turn 4 than my current ramp, I want 6 or 7 mana on turn 3, which defender ramp can't get.
  2. My friend KrosanTusker runs defender ramp in casual (see it here, its hilarious) and I don't want to infringe on his idea.

As for Garruk, Caller of Beasts , he could be useful, but most of the time I'd rather have something else. He's harder to get to than my creatures as Somberwald Sage can't help to pay for him, he can't drop an Inferno Titan or Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite with his -3 ability, and I don't really need to dig for more creatures as this is a pretty quick deck: I normally hope for the game to be over by turn 5.

leafswish I might do just that. This deck started off very casual, which is why Inkmoth Nexus isn't here, but as it is starting to become more competitive I think I'll put a couple in.

Elliote50 Don't forget to +1 if you like the deck!

After extensive playtesting, I have discovered that Inkmoth Nexus is almost entirely superfluous in this deck. With or without it, I win consistently on turn 5, and when I hit a turn 3 Primeval Titan , I'd rather spend my mana on turn 4 ramping into a fatty, as opposed to pumping an Inkmoth Nexus . That, and I have a personal vendetta against infect. For the aforementioned reasons, I've decided to remove it.
