And counting! This deck has become far more popular than I ever thought it would. It has also become far better, thanks to the TappedOut community who have helped me out a lot.

Cheers HumanOverlord.

laoshan3337, I've considered Urabrask the Hidden before and decided that he just doesn't make enough of an impact when he hits the board. For example, all my other fatties either ramp or knock out my opponent's creatures.

Why would I need Fetchlands in this deck? It just seems like an odd suggestion.

As for Inkmoth Nexus , although it may make the deck better by providing an alternate win con, I don't think I'll use it, mostly because I hate infect. It's a matter of principles.

Cheers for all the suggestions laoshan3337. How's your version of this deck coming along?

Well, I didn't change anything so far. Maybe I gonna exchange one Balefire Dragon with Urabrask the Hidden and test it out.

'll let you know if he's profitable enough to keep. :-)

Cheers

TitansFTWI just made a deck that is similar to yours and would like to hear your opinion on it. It features a lot of x costing burn and stuff to double my mana for lethal damage. It is called X marks the spot

Oh yeah +1.

Rampaging Baloths could be great fun in here!

That relies too heavily on me getting a Primeval Titan out. Besides, it doesn't ramp, nor does it act as creature removal, so its impact when it hits the board isn't really that significant.

Kittacus says... #13

No, but once it hits the field, the effects are immediate, because even if you don't get a Primeval Titan then you are still benefitting hugely when you play a land. Your board presence becomes a lot more imposing with one out than if you don't. Besides, it is still a 6/6 trample for 6, which you are almost definitely hitting on turn 3, and it benefits even more when you hit your land drop or play a Rampant Growth .

Kittacus is probably right.

Combine 2 Rampaging Baloths and 2 Primeval Titan for a pretty nice combo, instead of 4 Primeval Titan ?

I kind of see where you're coming from, but I disagree. Given that I only run 22 lands in here, land drops don't exactly come thick and fast after turn 2 or 3. If I don't get a Somberwald Sage in my opening hand, I won't be able to play him before my land drop on turn 3, and I probably won't hit too many land drops after that, so his effect is nullified.

My main win con is to get out a fat creature and a Kessig Wolf Run , clear the way for my attacker, then dump my mana into the Wolf Run and swing for lethal. Primeval Titan allows me to get the Wolf Run when I need it and nets me a cumulative 2 mana per turn to either play a bigger creature or dump into the Wolf Run, providing me with more consistency. On the other hand, Rampaging Baloths gets me 2 4/4s if I'm lucky, both of which are easy to chump block.

Primeval Titan is also far more useful in a stalemate if I have to resort to topdeck mode. It thins my deck out, thus improving my chances of drawing a big threat such as Bonfire of the Damned (which the Titan makes bigger), Balefire Dragon or Vorinclex, Voice of Hunger (who doubles the mana output from all the lands the Titan has been fetching). It also allows me to pump more mana into Kessig Wolf Run , thus grinding my opponent down a little bit more with each passing turn.

Finally, and crucially, Primeval Titan leaves a lasting impact on the board. If Rampaging Baloths is hit by a Doom Blade or 2 Lightning Bolt (That means you, Kittacus) as soon as he hits the board, he leaves no evidence that he was ever there. Primeval Titan , on the other hand, gets me 2 lands, which are pretty difficult to get rid of. In addition, Primeval Titan 's contribution makes it far easier to rebuild after a Wrath or a similar effect, which would otherwise slow me down significantly as all my rampers are dead as well. On the contrary, Rampaging Baloths ' contribution to the game would die with him. Given that control is the bane of this deck's existence, I feel that this makes Primeval Titan too crucial to remove from the deck.

Rampaging Baloths is a viable budget alternative to Primeval Titan , but my opinion is that he isn't as good in this deck as Primeval Titan .

Lol I run both in my g/r ramp, but mine is more focused on land dropping and excess mana. TitansFTW is right though, the only two things that will for sure allow him to land drop are Farseek and Primeval Titan . Rampaging Baloths are underwhelming in this deck is all.

On a side note how do you feel about Scourge of Kher Ridges sure Bogardan Hellkite and Inferno Titan will for sure do 3 or 5 damage, but scourge can be the boardwipe you need.

Scourge of Kher Ridges is an interesting idea, but unfortunately it's one I'm going to have to reject. At 8 mana, it doesn't curve nicely as I can't cast it on turn 3. The time when I really need board control is in the early turns, before I can establish a strong board presence. That's why I run Bonfire of the Damned and Inferno Titan . Balefire Dragon is a bit slower but makes sure they all stay dead. Every turn.

I do like the idea of more Dragons, but I feel that Scourge of Kher Ridges isn't quite fast enough to keep my opponent at bay whilst I set up my side of the board.

Valakut, the Molten Pinnacle is a very good win con, was paired with Prime Time until it rotated and was replaced with Kessig Wolf Run . The only downside is you run very few nonbasics and green sources, enough to cast 1 green spell to get another forest and more mountains.

August 15, 2013 10:38 a.m.

megawurmple says... #19

I would love a bit of Valakut ramp, especially with Prime Time in here. The problem is, as you point out, that you have to run a lot of Mountains to make it worthwhile, which I don't as my deck is primarily Green. On top of that, I feel that Valakut is a bit too slow. I normally hope to win by turn 5, and there is no way I can get Valakut and 5 Mountains out that early on without Prime Time. Even if I do get Prime Time, I'd rather grab myself a Kessig Wolf Run .

August 15, 2013 10:48 a.m.

MonkeyDerp says... #20

Yeah, consider running Inkmoth Nexus to combine with Kessig Wolf Run and Glimmerpost sideboard for against aggro decks, since with Primeval Titan you gain 4 life off the first two and 8 life off the last two.
