Maybeboard

Full spoilers are up! After careful consideration, I came to the conclusion that RB was the best home for pirates this season. Why? Let me show you.

- Dire Fleet Neckbreaker : This card is what sold me on the deck. As the only actual lord in the deck this card can win games if your board is decently assembled.
  • Fathom Fleet Captain : After playing this card I'm kinda iffy on it but I can't deny that it has evasion and the ability to replace itself if you have the mana to do so.
  • Daring Buccaneer : The other reason I wanted to build this deck. A 2/2 for 1 mana? Only for pirates? Sign me up! Also the reason I'm not sure if Metallic Mimic is right for the deck because it's not a pirate in hand. Needs more testing.

  • Kari Zev, Skyship Raider : Man, this card is great. The monkey triggers revolt on Fatal Push consistently, Kari has menace & first strike and she synergies super well with the next card...

  • Dire Fleet Poisoner : Flash, a +1/+1 pump & deathouch with a 2/2 body. What's not to like?

  • Dire Fleet Captain : I've made this card an 8/8 on turn 4 before. Too bad it doesn't have trample...

  • Claim / Fame : The ability to recur over half the deck if needed is great. Especially great when you use Claim & Fame on Kari Zev, Skyship Raider 3/3 first strike, menace with a 2/1? So much value.

  • Lightning Strike / Shock : helpful in taking down pesky creatures or pushing through those last points of damage.

  • Fatal Push : Have to be able to deal with Longtusk Cub quickly and efficiently.
  • Buccaneer's Bravado : Who doesn't like double strike?
  • Rigging Runner: First strike that can potentially be a 2/2 for isn't bad. Needs more testing. Only gets better with Dire Fleet Poisoner...

  • Fanatical Firebrand: Haste with a way to deal damage if I need it. Not bad, but might fit in a better shell.

  • Invigorated Rampage: I was complaining about things not having trample, this would fix that. Needs more testing!

  • So what are you thoughts? I really this deck/archetype has potential. Sideboard is still a work in progress. One thing I see it missing is trample, big creatures being chump-blocked sucks...

Update: SaffronOlive from Mtggoldfish did an article & played some matches with a similar deck! It did pretty good, and because of it I'm thinking of changing some things around in here. Thanks again for reading!
