This deck is built around the merfolk tribe in Ixalan, the River Heralds. I wanted to only use cards that represent that tribe so everything is from the Ixalan block and is either a Merfolk creature or a spell they can cast. I plan on building similar decks for the other Ixalan tribes as well. The Legion of Dusk deck is here.

The Merfolk deck is almost all creatures because there's just so many merfolk lords and high-value merfolk creatures that work well together. So the main plan is to play lots of creatures to overwhelm and beatdown the opponents with fish-people. And these fish-people are not to be trifled with; they can be swinging with a 3/3 as early as turn 2 with only a Kumena's Speaker and Merfolk Mistbinder. Use Kumena, Tyrant of Orazca's tap three ability and Seafloor Oracle to keep drawing cards as long as there are merfolk out. Everything goes well as long as you have creatures on the board but it's tough the recover if they all get destroyed or removed. So we have cards to protect the creatures: Dive Down, River Heralds' Boon, and Negate. There's also a few cards with just 1 copy in the deck: Tishana, Voice of Thunder, Kopala, Warden of Waves, and Hadana's Climb  . These are included mostly because their flavor really represents the tribe well but also they also work well with the mechanical themes of lots of creatures, +1/+1 counters, and drawing cards.
