Commander: Animar, Soul of Elements

  • What's good with Riku of Two Reflections?
    • Low CMC creatures and instant/sorcery cards so that they're available early game for good tempo, and when Riku is available they can be copied for extra value. This will help you snowball into the other bigger creatures in the deck to finish.
  • Creatures or Instants/Sorceries?

    • The creatures provide all the gas for the deck, and add momentum, blockers, etc. Many of the same, or stronger, effects are offered on instants/sorceries and they too can be copied. With those creatures, if I blink them then I can copy them with Riku again.
  • How to win?

Okay, I have some play testing on this deck. - I may up the land count to 36, as I found it hard to draw an opening hand with all the lands I wanted. I will also look to add more lands that tap for any color like City of Brass so I can have more options for green/blue. - Next, Riku of Two Reflections. There was never a good opportunity to play Riku. The best line of play was with the most efficient use of mana to get as many creatures out while prioritizing ramp/card draw to search for the key pieces of the deck. Riku isn't conducive to the strategy of playing lots of creatures since he wants you to spend more mana on the one creature you play. Animar, Soul of Elements solves this problem by decreasing mana costs and giving the battlefield a dedicated beatstick (with protection).- As such, I will be adding some cards that will further push the deck into obscene territory. Cloud of Faeries comes to mind. The more creature synergy I can push, the less noncreatures I can run.
