Welcome!

Aristocrats decks have always been my favorite archetype, and I've been working on this list for a while, trying to make something relatively viable in Modern. I think I've gotten close, but I'm waiting for some new cards before I think it's really viable in the format.

Testing of the deck has shown that it is capable of fighting basically every "fair" deck in the format. Tough cards to beat are Scavenging Ooze , Rest in Peace , and other graveyard hate. Luckily, Qasali Pridemage and Path to Exile are here to help. The real issue is that combo matchups are tough, and Modern is pretty heavy on combo decks, hence the current sideboard configuration and the recent update to a more explosive Rally the Ancestors list.

Engines and Enablers

• Viscera Seer - Free sacrifice outlet that also lets us filter our draws.
• Blood Artist and Zulaport Cutthroat - The deck's best (and fastest) win conditions. The lifegain also helps against aggressive and burn strategies.
• Cartel Aristocrat - Another free sacrifice outlet with a slightly bigger body that can gain protection from colors. This is surprisingly relevant.
• Rally the Ancestors - Lets us get all of our creatures back from the graveyard for the low price of 4 mana. Even though they don't stick around, hopefully the Blood Artist effects are enough to get there.
• Return to the Ranks - The deck's namesake card. Can return most creatures in the deck from the graveyard to play, and the convoke ability makes this card extremely easy to cast for large amounts of X.
• Satyr Wayfinder - Allows for a low land count and helps fill the graveyard while providing decent sacrifice fodder.

Sacrifice Fodder

• Doomed Traveler - The best one-drop fodder in the deck because he leaves behind an evasive 1/1 flyer, which can threaten lethal over time in groups.
• Blisterpod - Like Doomed Traveler , but provides a token that makes extra mana when it dies instead of leaving behind an evasive threat.
• Tidehollow Sculler - While it doesn't leave anything behind when it dies, we can abuse the separate triggers on this card to permanently exile cards form the opponent's hand. Also, this card is our only way to interact with our opponent outside of combat in the main.
• Voice of Resurgence - We all know the power of this card, particularly against blue strategies that like to cast spells on the opponent's turn. The sheer number of creatures in this deck means the elemental that Voice leaves behind will often be enormous.

Sideboard Tech

• Burrenton Forge-Tender - This card is great against both Burn and Pyroclasm / Anger of the Gods .
• Orzhov Pontiff - Helps against Affinity and other "small dudes" decks like Infect, and can help get a surprise win the the +1/+1 ability.
• Path to Exile - For killing problem creatures such as Scavenging Ooze and Olivia Voldaren or for disrupting creature-based combo decks like Infect.
• Qasali Pridemage - Kills Rest in Peace and fights against decks like Affinity and Lantern Control
• Spellskite - One of modern's best sideboard hate cards. Needs no explanation, really.
• Stain the Mind - A solid tool for combating combo matchups where one key card in the opponent's deck can make or break the game. Also great for getting rid of hate cards.
