Introduction

Thanks for checking out my Krenko, Mob Boss EDH Deck. This is a short guide of how to play the deck, and some information about my card choices. Krenko is on the cheaper end of the spectrum when it comes to budget, and is also easy to pilot. If you are a newer player with a love of red, you will have a blast with Krenko or Goblin builds in general! However, depending on your meta, Krenko is especially weak to removal and board wipes. An Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite can ruin your day!

That being said, this deck is one of the most fun I own! If you get off to a good start you can overwhelm your opponents with an army of tens, hundreds or even thousands of goblins!

Game plan

If you are unfamiliar with Krenko, the game plan is to win with goblin tokens. Lots of them. It is a quick deck that can consistently get out of hand in just a few turns! Start off with some sticky early game minions, and race to get Krenko on the field. You will want to abuse his ability and start slapping people with silly amounts of tokens as soon as possible.

In my experience, a mulligan with around three lands and some cheap goblins should do the job. Some equipment is definitely worth keeping (Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, Skullclamp), but I tend to avoid higher cost artifacts and hope I draw into them. Goblin Matron & Goblin Recruiter are auto keeps.

After you have a couple of minions on the board, cast Krenko and hope he sticks! This is obviously easier with protection like Lightning Greaves. An early Goblin Chirurgeon will also help keep him alive. Haste givers such as Hammer of Purphoros will help increase the effectiveness of your tokens. Keep pumping up your tokens each turn - this is much easier when you have artifacts that either copy Krenko's ability or allow you to untap it.

If you can't win with combat damage for some reason, there are a couple of sorcery and enchantments which will allow you to deal direct damage to players and troublesome creatures. Goblin Sharpshooter + Thornbite Staff + a sac outlet will also seal the deal, with an infinite damage combo.

As I have mentioned, the deck can be explosive but has its weaknesses. It relies on overwhelming the board before your opponents really have time to do anything. A board clear or artifact destruction can really ruin your day, but this is a red deck and we can live with that!

Card Choices

I will try to explain some of the more important card choices.

1 Drops

Goblin Chirurgeon - Great at helping your more important goblins stick, and a valuable sac outlet!
Goblin Lackey - Helps cheat out expensive goblins from your hand, a good turn one play.
Legion Loyalist - Helps your stronger minions get past blockers, a strong goblin
Skirk Prospector - Mana and a sac outlet!

2 Drops
Goblin Recruiter - Lets you stack your deck with goblins! Combine with Goblin Ringleader to fill your hand with four goblins.
Grenzo, Havoc Raiser - Great mill tool, and when combined with a mana generator you can steal spells and mill your opponents cards!
Warren Instigator - Just like Goblin Lackey this card cheats goblins from your hand. With double strike, this ability can trigger twice in one combat phase!

3 Drops
Gempalm Incinerator - A useful goblin for targeted removal, I usually find myself cycling this to deal damage to a pesky creature.
Goblin Matron - Lets you tutor for any goblin, especially your Goblin Recruiter
Goblin Sharpshooter - A great combo piece, combined with a sac outlet this can machine gun down your enemy or their creatures
Goblin Warchief - Makes your goblins cost less, and gives them all haste! Need we say more?
Tuktuk the Explorer - A sticky goblin that comes back as a 5/5!

4 Drops
Goblin Ringleader - Best used after Goblin Recruiter , but good on its own. Fill your hand with goblins
Purphoros, God of the Forge - Can win games with a single krenko trigger! This one goes without saying

Mana Rocks
Chrome Mox , Sol Ring, Thought Vessel all help speed up your early game

Equipment
Illusionist's Bracers - Copy Krenko's ability on the stack, turn 10 goblins into 40!
Swiftfoot Boots - Give Krenko haste and protection!
Lightning Greaves - Protect Krenko and give him haste!
Thornbite Staff - Untaps Krenko after any creature leaves play, to us this means using sac outlets to generate more gobbos!
Umbral Mantle - Untap Krenko
Sword of the Paruns - Untap Krenko and increase damage of creatures
Skullclamp - Card draw!
Buffs -
Hall of Triumph , Eldrazi Monument, Door of Destinies, Coat of Arms, Obelisk of Urd
These cards all work in a similar way, making your goblins huge! Coat of Arms can win games, but be careful as it also will buff other tribal decks on the field.

Other
Thousand-Year Elixir - untap krenko
Rings of Brighthearth - another way to increase the goblins produced with krenko
Hammer of Purphoros - make your minions have haste!
These enchantments all work in a similar way, providing damage when goblins either enter or exit the battlefield. However Mana Echoes is a crazy card which gives you so much mana with Krenko's ability! When combined with Grenzo, Havoc Raiser, you can cast a LOT of spells from your opponents deck.
Chaos Warp is great removal, Brightstone Ritual is free mana, and Massive Raid does massive damage!
All straightforward choices, Gamble is our tutor, Burn at the Stake deals massive damage, Fury of the Horde can provide a surprise win when you have no mana open!

I have added some suggestions I was given on reddit to the maybeboard.

Notably Banefire & Voracious Dragon look like great finishers. Phyrexian Altar is a good sac outlet which lets us pump up our mana, Similar to our Ashnod's Altar

I have kept out Mox Diamond and Cavern of Souls due to budget constraints of this build.
