Wait a minute. Dredge, in pioneer? How? There are so many important pieces you're missing.
Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis
,
Bloodghast
,
Faithless Looting
, the list goes on. Also, you're missing the quintessential dredge piece.
Vengevine
. So how do we do our best dredge deck copycat in pioneer?
The good news is, we already have access to some of the staples. Having
Creeping Chill
and
Prized Amalgam
is a big win. The amalgam is going to be the big target to cheat out in great quantities from the graveyard.
Although faithless looting is banned, there are still some good discard outlets left.
Lotleth Troll
has always been my personal favorite.
Rotting Regisaur
is way slower at it, but eliminates the "downside" on our beat stick.
Haunted Dead
is a little more situational, but it is also doing its best gravecrawler impersonation at the same time.
Satyr Wayfinder
,
Stitcher's Supplier
, and
Gather the Pack
all aim to fill the graveyard up quickly from the beginning. In decks like these the graveyard should also be considered the second hand. So going 4 or 5 cards deep into the graveyard is a great bonus.
Satyr Wayfinder
also does a ton of work because in a 21 land deck (which may go down even lower with more playtesting), you're going to want to find them.
Gather the Pack
grabs your regisaurs and trolls, and dumps the rest in the graveyard to facilitate bringing back more amalgams. Going through the deck with these cards is also a great way to ensure
Creeping Chill
triggers as well.
Marang River Prowler
,
Scrapheap Scrounger
, and
Haunted Dead
are doing their best job of reenacting the holy trinity of dredge (
Vengevine
,
Bloodghast
, and
Gravecrawler
).
Scrapheap Scrounger
is probably the best out of the three but
Marang River Prowler
will always give you a trigger if it is the graveyard.
All said, dredge may be a viable thing in modern. A little more fine tuning is needed, and of course I am open to suggestions, especially on the sideboard.
