I really wanted to come up with something based around rats after playing an Ogre Slumlord in a draft. This deck uses Pack Rat and the Slumlord to make sure there's plenty of tokens around, has sac outlets (more in the sideboard) to counter Detention Sphere 's and other removal in that vein, and uses discard to prevent board wipes or responses from the opponent.
Shrieking Affliction as a bit of a win-con.
tri-color deck is too hard to play with basic land, so you should swap it for more shock land .
Gravecrawler doesn't match for this deck because you're not have other zombie
You're right about Gravecrawler , I was hoping Garruk would help me get two of them, but that's not much to count on. I'd really like to make cyclical sacrificing work though, and keep sac possibilities as a response to Detention Sphere , as well as the deathtouch/rat tokens.
KingSorin I really like the idea of Mikaeus, the Unhallowed in here, multiple spawns from things dying, multiple sacks, etc. I'm trying to keep this budget, and he may be too high CMC and $ cost. I'll add him to the maybeboard though.
I'm not a fan of Liliana of the Dark Realms in this deck, I think she just wouldn't have enough board impact. If I can find her for cheap though I may give her a test run in here.
Been having a lot of fun (WELCOME TO RATNICA!) and even some unexpected wins with my variation on this, in MTGO. The discard mechanic is much more powerful than I dismissed it for, at first. Also, I tweaked mine down to a stupidly low CMC so I run only 18 swamps, and all I need is 2 (or even 1) swamp in my starting hand.
Ratnica! is the deck, if you're curious. Long live the rats!
