Turn 5 Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger!!!

Pretty self explanatory (I would hope)...

Original build by Ali Antrazi, reviewed by Saffron Olive. Modified to adjust to meta.

Ideal play is T2 mana-dork (Naga Vitalist, Ulvenwald Captive  ) ramp into T3 Hedron Archive into T4 Nissa's Renewal, then you'll have 11 mana to spend on T5. Most decks can't get too close to lethal in 3-4 turns and the lifegain from Renewal gets you stable. Then you use Fogs (Haze of Pollen, Commencement of Festivities ), countermagic and cycling/card draw to lock out the opponent. You then acquire tons of lands to get an extra turn and a 6/6, sweep the board and get an 8/8, or hard-cast Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger.

Ramp

Clearly Naga Vitalist and Ulvenwald Captive   are the first phase, helping my cast more ramp to accommodate massive spells. Vitalist helps fix mana if you need double colors and only have one land source, and Captive can transform late game when you have mana laying around.

Hedron Archive is great to ramp into big spells and the sac for cards when you have plenty of lands.

Fog

Haze of Pollen is preferred as it can be cycled when not needed. Commencement of Festivities is basically Haze 5-7 with side.

Don't block, just fog! Take damage early to get your ramp in, taking hits the first few turns. A solid ramp play out will get you a Nissa's Renewal to make up some life. Then, as the opponent has amassed an army of Zombies or Humans or whatever you let them swing and whif. Always hold up and ideally for the threat of countermagic in the form of Censor. Not a true Fog, but it can have the same effect.

...

Super potent against Aggro decks with no late game.

Ok well despite a field of Aggro decks I piloted this build horribly to an 11th place finish. If felt strong but either botched plays or poor draws was it's downfall. I mulliganed at least 12 times. And while it did usually stabilize it eventually fell prey to one bad turn.

More importantly than its performance was my displeasure with its pace and the archetype overall. Yes, I like casting fatties and winning spectacularly as my "Jimmy" would indicate, but to play a land and pass the turn hurt me. Down deep. It didn't feel fair. Each turn they mustered their forces and I sat back with a Fog. Next turn, play a land and pass. So yes, if you are a Mage this deck is legit. For me, if a single game of the match goes for 45 min there's something wrong...
