Ty for your suggestions, for now I'll stick with this build and see where it gets me :)

@skoobysnackz Hm, not a human but you are right with the indestructible threat, that's why I had Black Sun's Zenith in there in early versions. Either way, I think I can handle 1-2 indestructible threats with this cards because I'm not really dependent on dealing combat dmg and I'm glad to get my creatures killed blocking. If I'll really have trouble with indestructible in the future I'm gonna SB Dismember ;) Hexproof isn't a thing because of Wrath of God

@subzero719 Woa, nice card, but pricy with it's 5 mana. At this point I wouldn't know what to take out for, but I'll put that to the maybe's.

Yes Liege is a bit high for the curve of this deck but esentially you would be removing wrath of god for it. im not saying you need to remove it but it would be the best card to swap. liege would be 1 extra mana but half of your creatures would gain 2/2 which can be a win con with enough bodies on the field.

i have a handful of cards you may want to consider

  1. Unburial Rites not the best card for this deck but flashback makes it effective for recovering field presence especially after wrath.

  2. Castigate this is a very effective card especially early on. see your opponents hand and know what to expect. plus you can remove their strongest card and set back their strategy.

  3. Sin Collector basicaally a weaker castigate but it has a human body for sacrifice fodder.

  4. Teysa, Orzhov Scion this card gives you some nice removal with replacement for every black card sacrificed. 3 white creatures may be difficult though with the number of black creatures you run but you can sac the tokens it makes.

  5. Kambal, Consul of Allocation this card is pretty new but it really hurts your opponent depending on their build. consider for your sideboard.

  6. Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim might not be that great of a card for the deck as its not a human but deathtouch and emergency life gain can be useful as a sideboard option against large creatures and aggro builds.

  7. Lingering Souls this card is simply great. you get 4 1/1 flyers for 5 mana. good for sacrifice fodder for nantuko, blocking opponents flyers, swinging over larger creatures. at 3 mana and 2 for flashback it should fit in quite easily in the deck

subzero719 Kambal is a SB card. as a one or two of. Lingering souls is a great card and gives more reason for this person to be using collective brutality. Teysa's great. She should be a one of. and further more, instead of castigates run, Tidehollow Sculler

Thx benelas16 and subzero719 for your inputs, took some of it to the maybe's, the ones who are not there were already in the deck when I first constructed it, but fell off when I had to cut it to 60. Teysa, Orzhov Scion looks very interessting, but is making me wonder about the ruling: "When a black creature is put into graveyard from play" -> Let's assume Dutiful Attendant gets saced by myself for example with Altar's Reap: First I can get me a creature back from my graveyard, independent from if my opponent pays the 3 life or not, so far so clear. My opponent decides to NOT pay the 3 life, so Dutiful Attendant died, but not went into a graveyard because of Athreos, God of Passage: does Teysa, Orzhov Scion trigger now? Hopefully you get what I mean :D

Quote from MtG Comprehensive Rules 700.6. The term dies means is put into a graveyard from the battlefield. It is used only when referring to creatures.

Teysa will still trigger because the creature has to hit the graveyard for athreos to trigger. the term dies is now shorthand for "is put into the graveyarrd from play" and newer cards no longer have the lengthy text. this is different however from effects that say "would die". For instance if something is killed by Red Sun's Zenith it would get exiled and would ever hit the graveyard. But alas this is not the case.Further more both triggers go on the stack and you can decide the order in which they go on the stack.

benelas16 i would say Sin Collector or Castigate over Tidehollow Sculler for the reason that this is a deck that relies on sacrifices. Tidehollow is not a human for one but also if you sacrifice it, they get their card back.

I almost forgot. my number 1 reccomendation for this deck is Hero of Bladehold It is perfect for a deck like this. you get extra attack power for everything and every battle step you get 2 warrior tokens which you can sacrifice for Reap Nantuko or Teysa if you decide to go with her. The hero of Bladehold Teysa combo is pretty good. if you sac any black creature and attack with hero you can exile creatures.

Thx for rule clarification, almost thought so.

Regarding the discard creatures: think I stay with the 6 spells I got in SB, much cheaper to cast and therefore more efficent imo. Don't wanna wait till turn 2 or 3 till I'm capable of forcing discards.

Hero of Bladehold will find it's place at the maybe's, but tbh: I don't want to much of combos outside of Aethreos, the dependancies and manacosts are just to risky. Keep it simple, keep it working nomatter what you draw besides the god, this is my only target ;)

I like this deck a lot and i actually made a copy of your deck and modified it quite a bit to my tastes Athreos Orzhov humansA few things i noticed in playtest.1. Teysa and athreos is an amazing combo. You sac 3 creatures and get them all back unless your opponent pays between 3 and 9 life. Dont be afraid of combos. while relying on combos can be risky, exploiting combos is great. Both cards are good on their own but when you sac 3 BW creatures, replace them with spirits and then get all of your cards back, your opponent is gonna be in trouble.

  1. Tragic Slip is really good in this deck. Any time you sacrifice something this card is able to kill anything smaller than an Emrakul and all for 1 mana. Alternatively you play it early on to set your opponent back a few turns.

  2. Hero of Bladehold Thalia's Lieutenant and Champion of the Parish are all really useful in this deck. Having some attack power gives you some good wincon.

  3. Wrath of God, although perfect for the athreos theme, is not very beneficial. you want to keep creatures on the field otherwise athreos is just an enchantment. if you nuke everything then you are defenseless until the next couple turns. If you play against any deck that doesnt run many creatures, you are hurting yourself more than your opponent. replacing it with hero of bladehold does nothing to the curve or the mana color balance. I just think hero gives a lot more to the deck by pumping creatures and creating sacrifice power.

  4. The deck has the capability of winning without ever seeing athreos, for this reason i say cut to 3 copies since once one is on the field, every athreos in the hand is worthless. when i play test with 4 copies i see 2 athreos in the hand quite often.

  5. With the dual lands you run and especially the marsh flats, you can handle anything with 2 white or 2 black cost.

  6. I cut a few copies across the board to fit Thalia's Lieutenant with all the humans in this deck it can get quite big on its own and it buffs every creature you put on the field other than athreos.

Hopefully Modern Masters 2017 will see cards like Cavern of Souls come down in price. 4 of those would be perfect for casting humans but 4 copies of Cavern is like $200. I believe Marsh Flats is also getting a reprint. Itd be nice if mana fixing this deck didnt break the bank.

First of all, awesome deck! And great flavor... Hahahaha

Zulaport Cutthroat is definately great in this deck! Draining for one on top of the Athreos, God of Passage 3 life everytime a creature dies is definately very strong here. Also turns Wrath of God into win conditions most of the times!

Have you thought about making it zombie based instead of human based? Gravecrawler and Ghoulraiser come to mind when I think about the abuse this deck is doing.

Fatal Push now that I think about it is as good as it can get in this deck. Triggering revolt several times over, maybe good s/b tech to replace Tragic Slip to hit decks like affinity and other aggressive decks!

@TiagoMourao Thought about him several times and took him now in there, playtests will show if he's worth it ;)

@musicman3310 nope, I didn't. Why should a porschedriver think about buying a ferrari :D with white I honestly think humans have a better synergy.

@MassiveZelly Hm, with Tragic Slip I can handle indestructible ones, don't see to much of a benefit in Fatal Push, and don't forget that there are 3 Wrath of God in there.

Respeck >:D amazing game.

Also, you could think about putting some Ornithopters or some free creatures in here. If you have Athreos out already, and either Cartel Aristocrat or Nantuko Husk, you could sac an Ornithopter, return to hand, play, sac, repeat. Your opponents would eventually have to pay the 3 life. Just a thought.

fatal pushes application allows you to take this deck full steam to an fnm modern event. It kells all the big players like any infect creature, siege rhino, goyph, manlands, voice tokens, snapcaster, deaths shadow, goblin guide, eidolon of great revels, monastery mentor and swiftspear; It kills Sram, puresteel paladin, ornathopers, signal pest...you get the idea.

You're running black and white, yet not running any removal. 4 path 2 push 2 brutality. Iok's and Thought Seize should be mainboard as a 4 of two of respectively, because you never want to turn 1 thought seize and waste it on a noble hierarch, where they could have a rhino or karn.

Leylines should be a four of because you always want to draw them in the games you want them in for. Look into a Blood Baron of Vizkopa It's equivalent to batterskull and will literally win you games against control. Let's get on the value town bus and add in some things like Doomed Traveler and Blood Artist. Kambal, Consul of Allocation (SB) is stellar against combo decks. Return to the Ranks is an explosive card as well. It allows you value and who cares about its exiling things you're just going to knock the player out by saccing a bunch of guys
