A deck that I'm still trying to perfect. Interestingly enough, the red in this deck plays like black, and the black plays like red. It is an almost "red deck wins" style deck with plenty of evasion and direct damage, but uses more black cards and mechanics.
Faithless Looting + Tombstalker
allows for early cards in graveyard to cast Tombstalker. The same goes for Collective Brutality + Tombstalker
.
Faithless Looting + Hollow One
allows Hollow One to be casted for just (1) mana. If played after a turn 1 Monastery Swiftspear, it could result in a turn 2 prowess trigger followed by a Hollow One drop.
Likewise, Collective Brutality + Hollow One
can achieve a similar effect of a turn two Hollow One with a prowess trigger, but that would involve escalating twice. This combo could perhaps be used better turn 3 if one more mana was available to madness a Alms of the Vein for an additional prowess trigger.
Liliana, Heretical Healer + Vexing Devil
make for a terrifying combination. If Vexing Devil hits the battlefield while Liliana, Heretical Healer
is turned up, the opponents cannot choose to force the sacrifice or she will transform. If Liliana, Defiant Necromancer is turned up, she can pull Vexing Devil from the grave for just (-1). This could be done to bring back a Vexing Devil that was denied if Liliana was turned over from the initial denial.
Heir of Falkenrath
and Liliana, Defiant Necromancer both have (0) mana cost discard abilities which makes it easy to conveniently cast Alms of the Vein or Bloodhall Priest.
Bloodhall Priest + Heir of Falkenrath
allows Heir of Falkenrath
to be transformed at instant speed, allowing for Bloodhall Priest to effectively be "flashed in" if the madness cost is paid.
Alms of the Vein + Faithless Looting
and Bloodhall Priest + Faithless Looting
Allows a saving on mana if the madness cost is payed.
Monastery Swiftspear may seem like a random add, but she actually fills the role of a reliable (1) drop nicely, since Vexing Devil will almost certainly be denied if dropped turn one. Moreover, the mainboard includes 18 non-creature spells, all of which can be cast for (1) or (2) mana, so there's plenty of spells that can trigger prowess.
