THE END OF QUEST MAGIC

Hi everyone! As you've probably noticed lately, Tappedout has a new website design, and it's great. Sadly, it messed up QUEST MAGIC's layout. I won't be repairing it. I won't be adding new expansions in the future either. The game can still be played though; it's no longer aesthetically pleasing, but it's otherwise relatively intact.

I still can't believe how many of you played this game. What began as a small story for my friends to read and play became a huge game played by thousands of players. I've received so much nice comments from you all, thanks again for having played this game, and for all your great ideas that helped improve it. Also, many thanks to those who designed expansions for the game, you've contributed a great deal to this project.

I really hope some of you guys will be creating your own QUEST MAGIC games, I would enjoy playing someone else's game! I will gladly post links to any new QUEST MAGIC game here on this page. If some of you would like to have the html templates I made to design QM, just leave me your email here or on my profile page. Since Tappedout's layout has changed, the templates are no longer up to date, and would need some fixing. But they can get you started!

I spent a good chunk of my evening playing this for the first time, and I'll definitely be back to continue. I had to abandon my first playthrough as I got stuck dying in every battle, starting with such a low life total after losing once. But, I learned a few things to do (and not do) from that, and have made it much further in the second playthrough (with a much more proactive deck). Definite +1 from me.

Awesomeness. Just got finished burning my way through Zendikar (I went from bottom to top on the guides, thanks for that >.< but at least I got a ton of XP), and left off at the gorgons battle. I must say, I really like the deck structure, where the decks are fun to play with and against, and none too mind blowingly overpowered. My irl deck has been treating me well so far on my character, I've so far lost once to one of the traps from I believe the shortcutter line. On the other hand, I started with one life and didn't have any Elixir of Immortality or Lich's Mirror on my field...probably should have used those! Very glad that you've put so much work into it, it's very fun.

I've started making more challenging versions of the enemy decks to play against for a nice "Hard Mode" of sorts for me and my friends. I make it a rule to only use cards. I have or am getting IRL, and even still I expect we'll lose a few times to the aggro infect in the swamp! +1 x10000000000000000000!!!

This is truly awesome. I can't imagine the amount of time that went into something like this. I'm sad I can only +1 this once.

Were I competent in any way at making such things, I'd offer to try and make an expansion (possibly based around time breaking down - i.e. Time Spiral which would allow you to planeswalk to places at different points in time/in alternative timelines - such as mirrodin before the phyrexian invasion, both lorwyn and Shadowmoor, and Kamigawa would show up along with the appropriate overcosted jokes of course!). I've got a few random ideas for enemy decks/the actual content, but I have no idea how to program such things, so if someone is willing to help me out with that then I would gladly try and make a humble addition to this incredible game!

Hey everyone, thanks for all your comments, it's really appreciated! Glad you enjoy the game.
Rotanimod, if you want to try designing your own quest, just leave me your email on my user page, I'll send you the html templates I used. Once you get the hang of it it's really easy.

As someone who used to dig those Lone Wolf Adventures books (RPG Choose Your Own Adventure for those that don't know) this looks fantastic. Now to make up a character and give it a go!

I just got through it, EXTREMELY FUN, and it was easy for me.... but then I am a rather experienced player. I went through with a standard deck, but by the end I completely remodeled it into my final deck build, which completely crushed everything. I also have to say.... I had 2 losses the whole game. 1 was in urborg, I was at 8 poison counters from previous encouters, and then a snakes deck played Triumph of the Hordes . The other was at the beginning of the game... I swung with a 24/24 Kalonian Hydra , and it had lifelink, but Boros Fury-Shield deals the damage... not the creature.... I lost...

The game was excellent, I truly appreciate all the hard work you must have put into this. Here is the character I thrashed around with:

So i'm playing as Bant Pillowfort (quasi tier 1 in standard).

It feels so unfair i might consider going standard pauper.

Then again i've only played the first match, it really was just a gang of boros officers.

LOL... trust me man, the boros patrol deck is NOTHING compared to what's coming up. Eventually you are going to have to modify the deck with cards you find, but yeah, playing standard is actually the most fun, it makes the scrolls you find so much more relevant.

Cool, i'm hoping my long term deck that gains tons of life makes life not an issue. I'll have to sideboard in anti-poison counters (i've never ever played against infect... i started playing when Theros Block came out).

Or i can netdeck a legacy deck to plow through the game mwahahaha!

LordLoli says... #21

Lol, well countering infect with standard is hard but easily done with control. I already beat the game, but I might go back through with a bit of a less... abusive deck.

I'm trying my best to roleplay but i just can't feel the U/W/G "justice of nature" feel when i'm dealing with Lilianna Vess and sneaking into spoilers a Simic Lab.

I assume you get additional card to place in your sideboard?

June 4, 2014 8:30 p.m.

LordLoli says... #23

Yeah later, you get to buy scrolls which are cards you add to your sideboard... and eventually you can buy commander scrolls for an expensive amount and use one as your commander, whatever you do don't play Rafiq... I did and he was just to easy.

I'll take you up on that.

Who would have thought the pillowfort mirror would be so grindy?

I dug for about 10 turns for a Detention Sphere because the spirits+pillowfort Urborg deck had this "Pay 4 mana if you want to attack!" and like 6 creatures. I even had double Elspeth Emblem and ended up hitting for 78 once i got the sphere.

Thank you very much for your work on this, it is a fantastic and unique game.

I've been playing on it with a modern-with-spice (vindicate) lifegain deck recently, and it's still been quite challenging even with the deck's power level, but very fun. :D

I might work on an standalone expansion sometime, maybe set on a new plane entirely (the details of which you'll have to wait and see ;) ), when I get a bit of free time.
