Put on your masks and animal skins!

Casual Casual Combo RG (Gruul) Theme/Gimmick Tribal

Shaman tribal, let's get freaky! Sooooo much synergy! Playtests show this to be unbelievably fast! So hold on to your masks and animal skins!

The deck at it's core:

Ramp, "ramp", kinship, and "kinship".

Playsets of the following cards ensure consistency, acceleration, and early board presence:

Bosk Banneret

Beastcaller Savant

Bloodline Shaman

Leaf-Crowned Elder

Playsets of the following keep us alive, and the opponent squirming:

Essence Warden

Rage Forger

As we move on from playsets, we venture into "goodstuff" teritory - cards that aren't in themselves the bread and butter of the deck, but each on their own offer an impactful boon:

Gigantomancer : This fucker might be expensive to get out, but hooooooly manure, is he worth it!

Kumano, Master Yamabushi : Amazing at ridding us permanently of pests.

Lord of Shatterskull Pass : He might take a few turns to charge, but there's just no denying the sheer badassery of a one-sided boardwipe charging horns-first at your opponent!

Reclamation Sage: No Gruul deck should ever be without artifact/enchantment removal.

Sachi, Daughter of Seshiro: Unparallelled ramp!

Sensation Gorger : With all the ramp and cost reduction I've got going, I'm often very likely to be able to play my entire hand every turn - so win!

Shaman of the Great Hunt : Turn my creatures into vampires? Please do! Draw me cards? Why is this card less than a dollar?!

Stigma Lasher: Shut down lifegain decks? Holy fuck, YES!

Tajuru Preserver: Because fuck STAX!

If you think I've missed an awesome shaman that would fit in just snuggly, please do tell me :) I want this tribe to be the best tribe it can be :)

I caved into one of my oldest taboos. I made a proxy deck... dun dun duuuun! I've always disliked people who used proxies... or rather, the use of proxy. I have good friends who have used proxies, the action of which I did not approve...

That aside.

I've just spent all my available money on preordering Amonkhet, but I desperately want to play this deck, and test it outside the confines of the TappedOut playtester. So yeah, greyscale printerpaper cut-out version of the deck currently rocking our gamingroom!

Dredgar, hardhitta71194, Snap157, iAlchemist, Domzig138, Journeytodiscoverychannel, guys! I think I've made my best deck ever! Would you, fine gentlement, be so kind as to take a gander and give your two cents? Have I missed any obvious includes? Is there a sort of deck that you could see this struggling against? How was your day? Are you psyched for Guardians of the Galaxy 2? Ok, I'm derailing here.. but, yeah.. what do you think?

Stay frosty!

Looks awesome friend, I have no suggestions as I've never built a deck of this type. Too many creatures for an Izzet Mage to be of much help. =P

As for Guardians of the Galaxy 2, it looks badass but I haven't even seen the first one. I should get around to that!

I feel like Tajuru Preserver, Loaming Shaman, Vexing Shusher are very specific for the main deck and should probably be used in the sideboard against mill, stax, and counters. I also think that Kumano, Master Yamabushi is a drain on your mana that doesnt fit with the fast pace. Eternal Witness is mostly better suited for decks playing more spells and 3 mana for a 2/1 is weak compared to the other creatures.

With that being said, red decks run Lightning Bolt almost as an auto-include. Burning-Tree Emissary fits persectly with your ramp and I feel like having some more cheaper creatures would be great for early game. Shaman also is not the cheapest tribe, so while you do have Bosk Banneret, I feel like Urza's Incubator would do very well. Rakka Mar adds a faster aspect for the deck, and Signal the Clans is always some fun. Hope this helps! I could see this struggling with turbo fog, and if you run into board wipes you're not gonna have a fun time.

As for me, I'm very excited for GotG2, but more so for the Pirates of the Caribbean 5! I love those movies so much. My life has been all right, there isn't too much news from up in Maine. You?

Snap157 may I ask where in Maine are you from? I'm just wondering how far you are from Stephen King. I would love to live in Maine and stalk him.

He's from Bangor btw.

hardhitta71194, I live about 2 hours from Bangor in a town called Cumberland. I've been past his house and read all of his books! He's a pretty neat dude ;)

He's the coolest dude in the world. Also my favorite author! I hope one day to meet him and have him sign my arm and get it tattooed over. I'm saving a spot just for that.

That's badass, I wanna drive by his house. I would have a restraining order within a week though.

hardhitta71194, thanks for the praise, my man! Yeah, heheheh, there ain't a whole lot of instants n sorceries here :p

Oh! You should totally watch it! Neither the wife nor I had watched it, on the grounds that we thought it looked too hyped. But the trailer for vol.2 looked so great that we thought we had to. And boy, are we glad we did!

I love a good old hype train dude! I get hyped up for no damn reason at all, ask Dredgar he can attest. I might just give it a watch this weekend!

Snap157, thank you, as always, for your extensive feedback. I really do appreciate it.

You are ever so right about the three guys being better for a sideboard. But, since we just play casual, no one really uses sideboard, and it would just feel dickish to go, "oh, you're using that deck? Let me just ruin your day with these last minute chsnges" ;p

I'm inclined to agree with you on Kumano. That is until I just beat a reanimator deck, thanks to him exiling key pieces :) he might be mana heavy, but in the mid-late game, Often I hardly need the mana anyway due to cost reducers and ramp.

You might just be right about the witness :) Though I do like to have that sense of security in being able to retrieve a lost key piece...

Ohhh, here I go again with the OCD. I really really reeeeaaally like the look of pure creatures and nothing else. Even though I would like to wholeheartedly concur on the need for bolts!

The incubator would also be sweet, even though, with playsets of ramp and cost reductions, it is very rare that I can't play what I want when I want ;)

Signal the clans would be sweet. I'm definitely needing some tutors, but oh! The aesthetics!

Hadn't even seen rakka mar! She's awesome! Definitely a maybe!

Every creature-heavy deck hates wipes xO and fuck turbo fog xp... but you are right...

Oh for sure! Pirates also has us bouncing off the feiling! And spiderman too! We're doing pretty swell. My three weeks of paid vacation is comming up soon, so that's nice :D

April 20, 2017 3:03 a.m.

Amazing! Only suggestion I have is since you have all creatures and same type Cavern of Souls

Maybe a Shared Animosity

Definitely second the Lightning Bolt

I couldn't find a single shaman that would benefit while keeping the pace

+1 from me man for sure!

And I'm super stoked for Guardians of the Galaxy I can't wait to see it!

Also, I wish I had deck building skills like this.

Goodness, The7thBobba, I'm still kinda new. This deck looks savage with a lot of card synergy, but seems like it won't have an issue with consistency like the "This deck is leaking worse than Cytheria" that you made (Such a fun deck though, mate.) The curve looks good too, which helps the consistency.

You might already know this, but I really like having more than 20 lands. 20 lands really bothers me and I feel like it's going to have the same issue here. It's also worth noting you rarely run dual lands? Why's that? Typically they come in just fine if you already control a normal land, and they'll come in tapped if you draw them first turn, which is okay because you don't have a lot of one drops to really concern yourself with and the potential for options on the next turn with dual drops. I dunno. I'm still very very new to deck building, especially on land base, but in my opinion, a good land base is unbelievably important to any deck value.

Worth noting, I have bought the cards for two of your decks, and I can personally say you're a better deck builder than I am at the moment. That Artifact deck is awesome...when you draw Liquimetal Coating, and the above mentioned deck featuring landfall is just unfair in multiplayer, managed to win a five-way match against "meta-decks" just by drawing my deck in a single turn. Oh dear, this deck advice has evolved into being a kiss-ass. Eh, oh well. Maybe look into modifying your lands a bit, or not. Your choice.

With Regards, iAlchemist.

Just dafuq...this is looking so ridiculously fast. Regarding your possible sweeper problem: Caller of the Claw is not a shaman, but it totally should be.

Also, i imagine Zendikar Resurgent to be quite the turbo in this deck. Maybe give it a shot?

Journeytodiscoverychannel, thanks for your praise and your suggestions, my man!

Oh boy, do I want a playset of the Cavern, but oh boy, do I also want to be able to pay rent ;)

Like I've said in other comments: I'm really keen on keeping the non-lands 100% creatures, mainly for aesthetics, but also to maximize kinship-potential.

That said, shared animosity screams tribal - and this sure us tribal.

Good to hear from another guardian-fan! Who's your favourite? The wife is on team Peter, whilst I root for groot... pun not intended.

And wow! Thanks for such an earnest compliment!

iAlchemist, first of all: thank you so much for your praise! My heart swells with pride, both from hearing about you buying and enjoying my decks, but just as much from your validation of my new work! And rest assured, I do not mind ass-kissery, not one bit!

Now, on to lands: the primary reason for not seeing many dual lands, and especially not the rare ones in my decks, is because I'm stingy like all hell! In Denmark we have the expression "stingy like a Jutlander". And I do indeed hail from Jutland. If something costs more, than what I appraise it to be worth, I'll be outraged :p

That said, 20/40 has always worked for me and my playgroups. We're pretty lax about shuffling, so it's perfectly acceptable to shuffle your lands in one pile, you nonlands in another, and then riffle shuffle both piles into each other - which lends itself to a very even and reliable distribution. Also, I rarely feel like two-coloured decks need manafixing, since it's 50/50 what you'll draw, unless of course you're running a lot if cards that require more than two specific mana symbols.

Lastly, for this particular deck, I have an abundance of ramp/cost reduction, so I really don't feel like more lands are needed :)

All that said, you are absolutely right about the need for a proper landbase. I think a lot of it comes down to comfort, routine, curve, and confidence. I used to run a few more lands too, when I just started playing, and you can be damned sure, if I'm running three or more colours, my manabase will get very funky :)

Thanks again for your insight and your awesome support. Stay frosty!

seshiro_of_the_orochi, thanks for your awesome praise! I'm almost blushing ;)

Caller of the claw should soooooooo be a shaman! For Rakdos sake, it's even wearing an animalskin!

resurgence eould be a BOMB! I reaaaally wanna keep this 100% creatures to max out kinship, but between this, lightningbolts, and shared snimosity. It's getting real hard to justify!

Thanks again, and stay frosty!

April 23, 2017 4:18 a.m.

Too bad there's not too many blue shaman.. Paradox Haze Would help out with that kinship

Leaf-Crowned Elder is awesome! Taurean Mauler could be great, as all you want is creature utility. +1

Naksu, thanks for the upvote and the suggestion, dude! I'll definitely consider it :D stay frosty!

April 27, 2017 12:15 a.m.

One more from me: are you aware that Felhide Spiritbinder is a shaman?

April 27, 2017 4:07 a.m.

Wooow that should really help with presence on the board. Especially if you copy Leaf-Crowned Elder

April 27, 2017 9:10 a.m.

Naksu says... #21

Treefolk Harbinger would also fit like a glove, even as a 4-of, since it can fetch both cards you need to get the ball rolling Bosk Banneret and Leaf-Crowned Elder + Forest if needed. I dare say it could greatly improve consistensy.

The7thBobba says... #22

seshiro_of_the_orochi thanks, my man! I had seen that it was a shaman, but I skipped over it because I had mistaken it for Oracle of Bones xO definitely one to consider, because, like Journeytodiscoverychannel says, pairing this up with leaf-crown, would be insane! Stay frosty, mate!

April 28, 2017 4:11 a.m.

The7thBobba says... #23

Naksu, thanks for all your great imput! I had considered against the harbinger, because it only tutored for a limited number if my creatures, but as you have expertly pointed out, yhose guys are some of my keypieces! I'll definitely try to make room!
