Description

Alesha commands with an iron will, leads without fear and prizes honor above all.

I regard this deck as the great recycler, a juggernaut that keeps rolling forward, like an unstoppable tide.

The deck also features some of the most potent removal in Magic: The Gathering and when combined with raw card advantage the board state quickly shifts in your favor.

But everything has a weakness and should you build in this style of deck watch out for Rest in Peace, Leyline of the Void and Bajuka Bog. It's always handy to keep your Oblivion Ring, Banishing light, Necrotic Sliver and Dueger Hedge-Mage close by.

This is a competitive deck and plays in a very control minded way in order to keep the board state in your favor, ending most 1v1 games with Alesha dealing 21 commander damage.

Natural synergy and win-conditions lead into powerful infinite combos, the most known of which is Karmic Guide + Reveilark. However Sun Titan + Angelic Renewal, Goblin Sharpshooter + Basilisk Collar and Dark Depths + Vampire Hexmage provide some solid back up plans. And Panharmonicon slips itself neatly into the fray.

I hope this list is informative, please don't hesitate to ask any questions.

I must say Dohyden, I very much like your build. My main deck has Alesha at its helm, and it is currently going through some growing pains. I really enjoy her, but for some reason I am really struggling to reanimate creatures right now. I am not sure if it's because I haven't played her in a few months, or if it's because I have suddenly been matched up against decks that she just can't stand up against. Also, I am totally stealing a few ideas from your deck. Anyway, I just wanted to leave you an upvote and ask if you would mind taking a peak at my deck Alesha, Who is Unfinished

Hi UnleashedHavok

Firstly thank you for the comment and thank you for the up vote, I've taken a good look at your deck and I have some notes. Your deck is lovely and plays some cards I wish I had, but here are my suggestions that are aimed at making the deck faster and a bit more competitive.

Now get some boots, Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots, these cards both protect Alesha, Who Smiles at Death and provide haste making Anger obsolete.

This brings me to my next point, believe it or not a reanimator deck can be creature heavy and what I see are creatures that make other creatures obsolete and some that just have very little impact, here are creatures I would consider cutting:

Ponyback Brigade

Cartel Aristocrat

Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit

Anger

Eight-and-a-Half-Tails

Figure of Destiny

Mirror Entity

Sin Collector

Thief of Blood

And Windborn Muse

To me these creatures are low impact, what you want are more high impact Enter The Battle field triggers that can be abused with Alesha, Who Smiles at Death but also Strionic Resonator and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker, and yes you should main board Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker. Now I also mention removing Mirror Entity that's because a Sacrifice Outlet like Nantuko Husk does the same job without having to wipe your board in an infinite combo, and that's something your deck is a little light on, Sacrifice Outlets.

You mentioned having trouble reanimating creatures, apart from the boots protecting Alesha, Who Smiles at Death play more sorcery reanimate spells, definitely main board your Reanimate, Victimize and stick a Dread Return in there too and these will work wonders with your Anarchist (I wish I had an Anarchist... and Reconnaissance)

I'd also take out your Increasing Ambition, you already play Buried Alive and whack in Diabolic Intent, Demonic Tutor and/or Entomb (cards I also wish I had lol)

Also your Maybe Board has a Bone Shredder, definitely play it, Bone Shredder has a very strong etb and kindly kills itself every turn. As well as the flip walkers, they are just straight up value, who doesn't love reanimating a plainswalker it's like they were made for Alesha, Who Smiles at Death.

I enjoy your Manic Vandal to kill an artifact, and War Priest of Thune to kill an enchantment, but with tutors and Duergar Hedge-Mage they might become obsolete, something else to consider are small creatures that make you the monarch, there are some good ones in Conspiracy 2.

I Don't think either of us want you to make a carbon copy of my deck but at the end of the day there's only 100 cards to work with and the higher you go the more the similarities will build.

I like your deck, it's given me some ideas too and I hope my feedback is helpful

This is the first Alesha deck I've looked at since kaladesh came out, and I'm drooling about Panharmonicon and Recruiter of the Guard because I've been thinking the same thing for my own Alesha deck haha. Your enchantments and avacyn are very nice for keeping your creatures out on the battlefield and i think Goblin Sharpshooter could be great if you have deathtouch, so maybe Archetype of Finality could be useful? If I may though, I'm curious why you chose Master of Cruelties since his ability won't trigger if he's recurred with Alesha. He can still be used but I doubt he'd be attacking alone unless you worked some board wipe shenanigans first. Also, for as many enchantments and artifacts you have, I'd recommend something like Auramancer and Treasure Hunter. If you want your deck to "cycle" as you say, then you'll want as much as you can to be recurrable which is why I imagine you have Anarchist. As one of the other comments was saying, running sac outlets is always nice with etb effects because you have to rely on echo effects and combat to reload. I just got Undercity Informer for that purpose and dredging out creatures. Anyway though, you obviously are willing to put the important cards into your deck and I'll give you the upvote for your creativity. If you'd like, feel free to check out my Alesha deck Alesha's smiling ear to ear and we can talk more deck tech!

Hello Beio53

Panharmonicon is certainly a powerhouse in the deck and has actually won me a game thanks to a double trigger off of Karmic Guide.

In regard to Master of Cruelties he does work with Alesha because his ability triggers in the blockers step here is the ruling http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=368981 which means with Entomb or Buried Alive Alesha can get a turn 3/4/5 kill quite easily. However your Brutal Hordechief's first ability does not trigger off of Alesha's res, but I still see the value of his second ability.

The reason I don't play Auramancer And Treasure Hunter is because Sun Titan already gives be back the majority of my enchantments or artifacts, sure I miss out on bringing back Sneak Attack, Smokestack and Panharmonicon but i'd rather use the slot they'd take up for other utility.

I don't play anarchist for the same reason, i just don't have enough power invested into my sorceries, sure it would be nice to Living Death multiple times but that's the only gimmick he would have.

And finally I have never been that interested in self-mill for the deck it seems much better to just draw and play the cards rather than relying too heavily on casting Alesha.

In regards to your deck, I wish I had Big Game Hunter, Hell's Caretaker and Feldon. Those are some sweet cards that have eluded me in the past. I really like your amulet of vigor but I feel Reconnaissance is better because you can untap in the end of combat step after the damage step effectively giving all your creature vigilance, but also to the reanimated ones and you can save Alesha from bad blocks. Flameshadow Conjuring is also really cool. I'm also a big fan of Extinction, I would love to put that in my Wish-Board

Anyway, I'd love to talk deck teck with you so please send me a private message!
