First thing first, all the cards in the maybeboard are land which would optimise the mana base.

Now, this deck is made out with the proliferate mechanic. There is multiple thing to proliferate in this deck which are the follow:

Poison counter; half of the creature in the deck have infect, only one of them has to hit an opponent to start the infection. Spinebiter is also a way to infect your opponent, since you just have to assign his damage to the player. Reaper of Sheoldred makes you builds up your board because other player won't attack you (if they do, they get infect and the count dow start for them). If you have already start poisonning someone, Phyrexian Swarmlord is a good way to make them remember that they are infect. Hand of the Praetors help you get poison counter even is you can't attack.But the easiest way to get poison counter on opponent is still Ichor Rats. Everyone get one but since not a lot of people are playing with infect, only you benefit from the effect.You can also use Triumph of the Hordes on a super big Kalonian Hydra to win.

-1/-1 counter; since half creature have infect, if the get block, -1/-1 counter are put on opponents creatures. Proliferate those counter to slowly but surely kill the enemies creatures. Contagion Engine also help to put -1/-1/ on creatures. Black Sun's Zenith while being a wipe the field can be cast for one, then, you can proliferate those negative counter.

+1/+1; while you have infect, nothing say that your opponent won't gain control of your creature. That's why, and the fact that makes your creature bigger, there are many cards that gives +1/+1 counter.Cathars' Crusade, Juniper Order Ranger and Ajani, Mentor of Heroes give you the opportunitie to gives counter to every creature you control.Enduring Scalelord with either Fathom Mage, Ghave, Guru of Spores, Juniper Order Ranger two get double trigger, Kalonian Hydra to get trigger every upkeep and Reyhan, Last of the Abzan make a good combo.Reyhan, Last of the Abzan help you to keep your +1/+1 counter in play.Kalonian Hydra to get the more +1/+1 counter as possible on the most creature you control as possible.

Planeswalkers and Lux Cannon; are the other thing to build counter on them.
