RBGW Prison: Modern Primer 1/15/2019

I've never really attempted to create a primer for a deck before, so here goes nothing.

What Is RBGW Prison?

RBGW Prison is a combination of hate cards, discard, and versatile removal. This deck is meant to annihilate the current meta-game. As such, the list will change often. Modern is a fast format, a very fast format.

As of today (1/15/2019), the top ten decks are as follows:

1. UR Phoenix (Aggro) - Graveyard Essential - Loses To Bridge

2. Ironworks (Combo) - Graveyard Essential - Loses To Discard

3. Grixis Shadow (Aggro/Tempo) - Needs One-Drops - Loses To Bridge

4. Burn (Aggro) - Needs One-Drops

5. Dredge (Aggro) - Graveyard Essential - Loses To Bridge

6. Humans (Midrange/Aggro) - Loses To Blood Moon - Loses To Bridge

7. Amulet Titan (Combo) - Loses To Blood Moon - Loses To Discard - Loses To Removal - Loses To Bridge

8. Mono-Green Tron (Midrange/Combo) - Loses To Blood Moon - Loses To Discard

9. UR Storm (Combo) - Graveyard Essential - Needs One-Drops - Loses To Discard - Loses To Removal

10. Jund (Midrange) - Loses To Removal - Loses To Bridge

Hate Cards:

So, what forms of these hate cards do we run in our deck? Main board we run three copies of Blood Moon . In game one this can generally jank out a win against Amulet Titan, Control, and Tron. We also run four main board copies of Ensnaring Bridge . Needless to say, this is a very powerful card in our deck. This card means that we can dump our hand to a Collective Brutality on turn two and follow up with an unstoppable defense. Ensnaring Bridge is sometimes enough by itself to beat any creature reliant deck in the format. (Excluding Tron)

Removal:

Our deck has alot of removal. Probably too much. In the one-drop slot alone we run three Fatal Push and three Lightning Bolt . This is enough to clear up most small threats. In the two drop slot we run four copies each of Assassin's Trophy and Collective Brutality . Assassin's Trophy is perhaps the most universal removal spell in modern. It also has the added bonus of being able to target a land to empty our hand for Ensnaring Bridge . Collective Brutality is our most versatile spell. It functions as a discard outlet for Ensnaring Bridge , a kill spell, disruption, pressure, and life gain against tough burn matchups. In the three drop slot we run three Kolaghan's Command and two copies of Maelstrom Pulse . Pulse lets us clear tokens, planeswalkers, redundant enchantments and pretty much everything else. Kolaghan's Command acts as pressure, recursion and removal for both artifacts and enchantments. One copy of Engineered Explosives is enough to deal with anything weird that we can't already kill. This clears up blind spots. But be careful not to blow up your card:Emanating Bridge or Blood Moon

Discard:

Discard is an essential part of our deck. It lets us transform our opponents best hands into unplayable stacks of cardboard. In the one drop slot we have four copies each of Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek . This lets us shred our opponents hand with ease as early as turn one. In the two drop slot we have our four copies of the aforementioned Collective Brutality . Additionally, we have three Kolaghan's Command to clear up other messes.

How Do We Win?

Needless to say, our deck is very slow. Our deck has two ways to win.

Burn:

With three copies of Lightning Bolt , four copies of Collective Brutality and three copies of Kolaghan's Command , burning our opponent out is sometimes a viable option.

Mogis:

Mogis, God of Slaughter is hard to kill. Insanely so. Mogis is our four main follow up to our Ensnaring Bridge . It means that even when they kill the bridge, they either have no creatures or no life left. Enough said, Mogis, God of Slaughter is good. We run three copies.

Sideboard:

Our sideboard runs some weird stuff. We run four Chalice of the Void to jank out free wins against burn, storm, phoenix and sometimes humans. Surgical Extraction combined with discard beats most combo or graveyard decks. (Phoenix, ironworks, shadow, dredge, titan, storm etc.) Damping Sphere can beat tron, storm, phoenix and titan. Tocatli Honor Guard is good against humans, spirits and titan. Authority of the Consuls can help our burn matchup and against the Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker combo. We also have one more copy of Blood Moon to improve some of our Tron/Control/Titan matches and Maelstrom Pulse for everything else.

Budgeting:

Needless to say, this is not a cheap deck. The fetches can be swapped out for cheaper fetches. Unfortunately this weakens the power of Blood Moon . Assassin's Trophy can be replaced by Abrupt Decay . Blood Moon can become Magus of the Moon . Surgical Extraction can become Extirpate . Chalice of the Void can become Leyline of Sanctity .

Changes:

This deck is constantly changing, I will try to update it weekly but every suggestion and upvote helps. Thanks for reading, I hope this helps!
