Prime Speaker Zegana's Counterintelligence

Commander / EDH

DrewReaLee

My Prime Speaker Zegana Control EDH deck focuses on my two favorite things of Magic; attacking with big creatures and drawing cards. Creatures grow in size through +1/+1 counters through drawing cards or playing lands. Zegana is the perfect commander to tie both of these themes together. Like the Simic themselves, this deck has been an ongoing project for more than 3 years as this deck continually evolves through stronger and stronger pieces.

Win Conditions

Avenger of Zendikar - One of two "lords" of the deck. Avenger focuses on utilizing ramp pieces both early and late to generate Plant tokens. Ramp cards especially Boundless Realms transition to pump spells late.

Docent of Perfection - The other of the two "lords" of the deck. Docent should be used as a late game control piece.

Sphinx's Tutelage - Incidental mill through card draw. This deck doesn't play dedicated mill pieces, but due to sheer number of card draw ability, it's one piece that fits nicely as a win condition all on its own.

Core Cards

Altered Ego - Through extensive testing, Altered Ego is the best clone for this deck and the only tutor I am willing to run. This tutor scales up and the uncounterability is a huge bonus that is not to be overlooked.

Chord of Calling - An extremely powerful toolbox card mainly since it can retrieve the deck is built around a few different game plans.

Chasm Skulker, Hangarback Walker, Managorger Hydra, etc. - Creatures that grow through +1/+1 counters whether that be drawing cards, using a small amount of mana each turn, or casting spells.

Doubling Season - There's really not much to explain here because of the absurdity of this card. If it sticks, it turns the deck's explosiveness up several notches.

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds - A recent addition that has already proved herself to be a core control piece in the late game, Selvala enables you to protect your large threats by often giving you extra mana for counterspells.

Sylvan Library - The way this card is worded is absolutely abusable by this deck. Even if you decide not to pay the 4 life for each card, the wording on Sylvan Library triggers abilities of cards like Chasm Skulker as if you drew them.
