Prime Speaker Bull

Standard

RB Score: 6

Description

I wanted to play the Prime Speaker bant deck but I love red too much. So I thought of this deck and think that it will work very well. It is like its bant counterpart but way more aggressive. Let me know what you guys think.

I like it! Though i would run another Garruk, Primal Hunter if you have it lying around.

Thanks, I was running another Garruk but I decided to run Niv-Mizzet instead. I put the extra Garruk in the sideboard just in case I'm against a control deck.

Have you considered Clan Defiance? Even just 1 would usually get caught by your BIG draws and could greatly aid you against control.

Actually scratch the Clan Defiance a Conjurer's Closet could prove hilarious in here, huntmaster, zegana, hellkite, tusk, all have funny etb's lol.

Predator Ooze doesn't seem worth it in my opinion, but I don't know what to replace it with

March 20, 2013 1:38 a.m.

RB says... #6

Yeah honestly I didn't really like it in most match ups. At my fnm last week I went 3-1. Winning the first 3 rounds then playing against Bant wolf run. Thats where predator ooze was actually just really awkward. You're right though I should replace him.

Funny enough bababad, I did have clan defiance in it. It fit in some match ups. Its one of those cards that its like well this is a good card if its in this situation. I like to think that I would run cards that would be good in just about every situation. To me it is more of a sideboard card.

I concur with the comments regarding Predator Ooze. I feel like your deck doesn't really know how it wants to win. Some cards are tailored towards generating CA, some cards are tailored towards explosiveness, and you also have a pretty significant ramp package. Maybe try to trim it down a bit to have a more singular focus?

Check my 4colour build out; I believe we pretty much started at the same place yet diverged as to how we wanted to implement Zegana into our decks. :)

Gyre Sage over predator ooze?

March 20, 2013 10:56 a.m.

RB says... #10

Gyre sage isn't really what this deck needs honestly. What do you guys think about wolfir avenger?

March 20, 2013 12:42 p.m.

Bababad says... #11

He's good. But im used to seeing rancor on him. Would be a decent chump blocker or wolf run target though.

March 20, 2013 12:44 p.m.

RB says... #12

Exactly. One of my biggest problems was that predator ooze would just sit there and be like a 1/1 or a 2/2. I just need to find that perfect 3 drop to fill that slot

March 20, 2013 12:50 p.m.

Geekachu says... #13

Or you could ignore the slot and fill up on 2- and 4-drops instead.

hm good point. Any thoughts on what to use? Things like master biomancer or something?

March 20, 2013 2:35 p.m.

Geekachu says... #15

Depends on what you want to do, obviously. You could put in more control in the form of Snapcaster Mage, Think Twice, Jace, Architect of Thought and Syncopate, or you could go the Master Biomancer route and maybe some Mizzium Mortars. Depends on what you want the deck to be better against.

Deadbridge Goliath is always nice

March 20, 2013 3:14 p.m.

RB says... #17

Ok, well like I said before...from what I know the biggest problem I have is against bant wolfrun. So I guess against control decks.

There's always Boros Reckoner if you are willing to splurge. Besides him your best bet would probably be Devil's Play because it has flashback. Sneaking in an x cast when they tap out (or mill it into the graveyard) saves games.

RB:

Deadbridge Goliath is awesome! most people overlook him but at a turn 3 5/5 you can't beat it. Searing Spear, Abrupt Decay and most other 2 cmc removal fall to the wayside of it. Not to mention he's great for Prime Speaker Zegana's ETB trigger, and plus he can be scavenged onto a mana dork for huge profit

I was thinking 2 of him and maybe 2 x Triumph of Ferocity since you SHOULD have the bigger creature on board with this deck

March 22, 2013 3:11 p.m.

teambob says... #20

maybe you should try Strangleroot Geist. he is a great blocker early on since you have all big creatures

March 22, 2013 3:30 p.m.

harrydemon117 says... #21

The problem with that teambob is it's GG and won't get played consistently early in a 3 color deck.

March 22, 2013 3:38 p.m.

RB says... #22

Strangleroot is a pretty damn good idea. Thanks...might be a good side board card against aggro though. Not sure if I should main deck it.

Izzet Staticaster + Nightshade Peddler . Maybe make it a R/U/G pinger, throw in some fodder and toss it towards Skirsdag Cultist and mix in Hellrider . But, going "big-baddies" isn't so bad either, I guess.
