Prime Speaker Zegana

Prime Speaker Zegana Midrange EDH version 1.9.1

Deck Intro

The general idea to this deck is to ramp quickly into bigger and bigger creatures, and drawing into win-conditions such as Psychosis Crawler, Avenger of Zendikar, Craterhoof Behemoth, Kalonian Hydra, Overwhelming Stampede and more. But that's just the tip of the iceberg...

Most of the creatures in this deck take advantage of +1/+1 counters, or producing creature tokens. The purpose of this is to play lots of less expensive creatures that end up buffing each other until they are gigantic, then before overwhelming an opponent, play Prime Speaker Zegana to draw lots of cards and find one of our win conditions. Zegana herself becomes a massive threat which we can give haste, trample, and make unblockable and often win with one swing.

Oh, did I mention Doubling Season?

Play this deck if you like:

playing lots of creatures
playing really cool creatures with interesting interactions
stomping opponents with huge creatures
drawing lots of cards
math

Don't play this deck if you like:

automatic-win infinite combos
lots of counterspells
playing no creatures
being a complete jerk

Champion of Lambholt

Creature Choices

Champion of Lambholt

This lady can turn into a huge beater pretty quickly, especially if the next creature played is Avenger of Zendikar. She'll quickly ramp up into at least a 9/9 and our opponents will be unable to block anything you have unless they have an Eldrazi. An absolute all-star in this deck.

Craterhoof Behemoth

Another of our primary win-cons. This should be saved for when we've got a lot of creatures (without summoning sickness) on the board. Drop this guy and it's GG for at least one of our opponents.

Deadeye Navigator

With all the ETB creatures that we're running, this guy is pure shenanigans when paired with pretty much any of them. Pair him with Prime Speaker Zegana for massive card draw for a mere 2 mana (try getting Psychosis Crawler on the battlefield first and you've got your kill condition set up)... or pair with Woodfall Primus for cheap permanent removal; Avenger of Zendikar and amass a plant army; Craterhoof Behemoth for a recurring win condition; Coiling Oracle for card draw/ramp; resetting Evolve or Graft creatures...
The possibilities are endless.

Forgotten Ancient

This guy gets pretty big, pretty quickly. In multiplayer, this will be getting plenty of +1/+1 counters each round. If Fathom Mage is on the field, we'll pretty much be drawing 3-4 cards each turn. Or move the counters onto Champion of Lambholt to help make your creatures unblockable.

Kalonian Hydra

This thing is meaty... so meaty, in fact, that it makes the rest of the deck look like potatoes in comparison. Just look at it. I don't really need to explain how much synergy this card has with the rest of the deck.

Psychosis Crawler

Psychosis Crawler

With all the card draw going on, this thing gets big and nasty. Cast Zegana on something big, draw a ton of cards and watch your opponents' faces melt. There are plenty of other card draw effects in here to take advantage of this guy.

Spike Weaver

Who needs defense when we've got a repeatable Fog effect?!

Vigor

This guy is the mack daddy of +1/+1 counters. Your creatures will get really big, really quickly. Don't be surprised if your opponents stop attacking you. A nice strategy is to keep Fathom Mage or Champion of Lambholt up as a blocker.

Vorel of the Hull Clade

This guy is going to be ridiculous with all of the counter tech we have in this deck, and can make a powerful replacement commander.
