Primal Amulet Control (Grixis)

Standard*

Maikeruu

Description

testing around with a control deck using the power of primal amulet.

The amulet can reduce the cost of all your powerful spells, alongside having the amulet flip is absolutely broken in this deck, not only does it double your removal spells you can also double Ribbons for a huge finisher or some burn to the face can really add up too, not to mention we have a scarab god to help reanimate the opponents creatures in their yard!

The grixis removal suite is super strong right now, some numbers of my spells are subject to change once i get testing - but this is the first draft of the deck I will be playing in the new standard.

Yes, I certainly will. I've been playing a Grixis control deck in Standard and only have a few more days with it... so I will need to update it accordingly. I really like this build and think I'm going to do something similar. I will share my ideas when I do!

Maybe consider adding a win con that plays with the amulet. I like Torment of Hailfire but I bet there are others you can look into.

Well i run 2 cut // ribbons which are a really good way to do a torment of hailfire style win at the mid-late game. Can easily smash in for a 15+ damage at that point from the ribbons. Plus drawing this early vs the torment it can deal 4 damage to a creature and not be a dead card.

Yeah I neglected to read your ribbons explanation initially. Good point.

I like the base of this deck a lot, but I also forsee Carnage Tyrant as a huge weakness that all control decks will have, and this deck doesn't really have an answer for it. I think Torment of Hailfire, Bontu's Last Reckoning, and/or Harsh Scrutiny should be seriously considered in your deck.

That actually makes a lot of sense. Changed the sweltering sun's in the sideboard for Bontu's Last Reckoning. As it should still be a good card Vs. Heavy creature decks like sweltering sun's is plus then it'll hit the hexproof dino :) thanks.

Personal opinion is mainboarding maybe at least 2 baral's, the deck looks fun and exactly what you would expect from a grixis based control deck, but the delicious ability to just have the 1/3 blocker with the aggro decks in the format, and even with the merfolk deck that's coming in he's a viable blocker, helping lower the cost of instants with the amulets, i love the thought of being able to follow him up with a vraskas contempt on 3 before casting amulet. Takes away spells from the deck for flip con, but seems strong enough vs the aggro decks to make it worth while.

I put him in the sideboard currently due to not knowing the meta and the fact that if we play against red aggro or something of that kind he will just be striked down instantly. Will have to see how to meta looks to whether or not I main board him! :)

what about adding in Dynavolt Tower and maybe Unlicensed Disintegration cut seems to be amazing.

I have unlicensed disintegration and I feel like adding too many artifacts and such will make the Deck have too little spells, we need as many as possible to trigger our amulet to flip.

How are tests going?

I'm playing with a similar deck and it's pretty fun to pilot. Just feel like we have too much artifact removal for this deck to become a tier 1 but still, great deck to play with.

About your manabase, isn't 23 lands too little? I know we have some considerable draw, but still... I'm currently using 25.

As said before, you should consider Torment of Hailfire, as we have some Second Suns decks in the meta, it's a really interesting card, and way better that Cut/Ribbons in this match.

My biggest issue is playing with RDW, how are your matches going?

I'm considering Harnessed Lightning in MB. The energy toghether with Aether Hub kind of saved my ass in some matches against Temur.

Fell free to make some comments on my version: [STD] Grixis Hailfire [XLN]

I would consider "Lost Legacy" for the SB. It has a ton of targets in this format. For example, Approach of the 2nd Sun and many others also..

I run 2 in my MB and I love this card!

I would also MB 4 Fatal Push, with all the aggro in the deck right now, its just a good idea.. My .02..
