Pre-Mirrodin MonoB Discard

Casual

Description

Updated.

The meta is everything pre-Mirrodin block, and no 'expensive cards' and no sideboard :)

So im not completely sure of what win condition i should go after (which one is the most effective) - and how many win options i should include.

A) Like is it enough to focus on thinning out my opponents hand and winning with the combo of MegrimThe Rack and dmg from Hypnotic Specter and Bottomless Pit for the continuous discard for The Rack.

B) Or a route with The Rack OR Sinkhole (i guess those two cards can't be in the same deck since they kind of work against one another), with several win conditions such as Mishra's Factory Cursed Scroll, a beat down stick in terms of Nantuko Shade and a single Nether Spirit with some Tendrils of Despair be efficient?

C) This option becomes even less pox-like i suppose. Here im thinking of running a creature heavy route Ravenous Rats Festering Goblin Mindslicer along with Mishra's Factory and maybe some Scrolls too.

Im not sure whats best and what creates the best synergy.

The core list of what i'm thinking including regardless:

20 Swamp2 Cabal Coffers4 Funeral Charm2 Blackmail4 Dark Ritual4 Hymn to Tourach1 Mind Twist1 Mutilate2 Nevinyrral's Disk2 Innocent Blood2 Diabolic Edict

which leaves open some of spots for one of the options above.

Thanks to all so far.

A the pre-Morrison restriction is a bit rough on Rack-like decks but, a few suggestions (I'm formulating off of a set list from a wiki, sorry if some suggestions are incorrect):

  • Wheel of Torture instead of Megrim

  • Blackmail

  • I like the inclusion of 4 Hypnotic Specters, it can be a beast. Definitely don't be afraid to benefit from traditional 8-Rack style though by going creatureless.

  • You do have the option of Ensnaring Bridge, though I realize it doesn't necessarily fit your budget focus.

  • Sun Droplet could be a useful stalling strategy if you foresee a long match.

  • You could use Pox, but I'm not so sure how much it would benefit you as much as just simply changing your strategy.

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Thanks for the quick input.

I just sold my playset of Ens. Bridge cus i needed some money :( but yeah those were in the decklist before i sold them.

By 8-rack you mean 4 rack and 4 Wheel of Torture?

Since i play multiplayer mostly i guess The Rack becomes less favourable.

As far as Pox goes, i guess i need to have some quick damage dealt for it to be useful which means more creatures i guess.

I have a suggestion (besides the Liliana's Caress: you should use Geth's Verdict instead of Diabolic Edict. It's up to you. Also, Cabal Therapy is great but better with creatures. Maybe even Shrieking Affliction would be worth it. Despise, Thoughtseize, and Appetite for Brains are all great in Modern. Consider these, my man.

Since you can't run Shrieking Affliction, I suggesting going towards the style of Legacy Pox.

Smallpox, Sinkhole, Dark Ritual, Mishra's Factory, Duress, Innocent Blood and Tombstalker are all awesome cards you should consider. At that point, you should only need The Rack as an additional win con.
