kingmaker

/ˈkɪŋmeɪkə/

noun

noun: king-maker

  • a person who brings leaders to power through the exercise of political influence.

Welcome, Kingmaker.

Throughout history, kings rise and fall like sand on a beach.

As Kingmaker, you practice the wisest strategy to longevity, to be the puppet-master behind every ambitious warlord.

  • Capital: Budget. (see "Maybe" list for non-budget options)
  • Threat-level: Hidden. (cloning let's you square-up to any threat your enemies' bring)
  • Match Strategy: Outwit, outplay and outlast without threats. Balance the table, helps weaker decks overcome stronger decks.
  • Playgroup Strategy: Don't win, even if you can. (No title to fight for.) Don't kill, even if you can. (No blood on your hands.)

Policies

  1. Outwit big-spenders with a budget deck! ($125.79 as at March 1st, 2020)

  2. Do not ruin anyone's fun.

  3. Anyone who attacks me will be retaliated by my friends.

  4. "Who is the most threatening guy at the table?"

  5. "Let's work something out. Make me an offer..."

Card Choices

Flicker-Engine: Flicker spells should blink at least 2 creatures (a spell recoverer and a payout) to get itself back into hand. Alternatives include cards that create copies of payouts.

The Play

First 5 turns: Play basic lands, cast mana rocks. Show no threats.

6th to 10th turns: Group-hug. Give draws and help everyone build up their boards. Start some feuds (see "Stir-shit"). Any early attackers can be deterred by reminding them that your Commander can stop further attacks.

11th to 20th turns: Direct mob to take out the strongest player, one after the other. Keep someone you can manage as the final opponent. (Preferably one who doesn't recover from board wipes well.)

Final Showdown: Conceit. ^_^ Mission accomplished. No need to keep everyone waiting.

The Last Resort

If you really need to get blood on your hands, you can assemble any of these combos to lock-out your opponent and win.

Optional: For 1v1 Friendly Games

This deck works well for 1v1 matches by replacing Pramikon, Sky Rampart and Vow of Lightning with Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker and Bruse Tarl, Boorish Herder.
