"I feel power, running through my veins and out my eyes and into empty, godforsaken minds..."

Since I started playing Magic a couple years ago I've evolved a lot as a player. From the lowly pauper decks I created from bulk I purchased on Craigslist; to my first Commander deck purchased on TCGplayer; to making friends (and enemies) at the local game story; my skills, critical thinking, and strategies have all changed tremendously. But two things have stayed consistent all these years: a penchant for black and an unquenchable appetite for power. This is the culmination of all of these things.

Based on my mono-black reanimator deck, The Necromancer, this deck seeks to address all of the problems my old deck couldn't handle. The main concern was my general: Volrath the Fallen is one of my favorite creatures of all time, but the amount of cards necessary to make him relevant and lethal ate up a bulk of my open slots. Ayli, Eternal Pilgrim, while removing a win condition from the deck, adds a lot of stability. She is a built in sacrifice outlet, which is extremely convenient; she gains us life to offset our suicidal card draw; and she is removal on a stick. Our secondary concern is artifacts and enchantments. Mono-black is terrible at dealing with non-creature permanents, but the addition of white shores up this weakness nicely. Building my removal suite into my reanimation package with Angel of Despair, Archon of Justice and Ashen Rider was a no-brainer, and the addition of Vindicate and Anguished Unmaking are flowers on the grave (and as I mentioned above, Ayli is also removal on a stick).

Our main win conditions here are Gray Merchant of Asphodel and Kokusho, the Evening Star (in the mail currently). Our big creatures can also be used to bring people's life totals into the danger zone, and there is often little in the way of blockers with all of our removal and tutors. Another win condition I am considering is Felidar Sovereign. It does nothing by itself, which is why it is on the maybe list currently, but used in tandem with Strands of Night or Chainer, Dementia Master it can lead to a quick, anticlimactic victory. Same with Academy Rector + Test of Endurance . The problem is finding slots for them, since they are all worthless by themselves.

Any recommendations will be considered and tested.
