FNM Trial Run 2-1-1 —May 27, 2017

Finally made it to a FNM and to my surprise the deck performed admirably. More importantly, it was quite fun to play and had some very memorable moments.

Round 1 Vs. RW Humans: 1-1-1, I was able to get out more and bigger creatures quickly, soak big hitters with the trees, and remove problem creatures with cheap removal. The Mummy put in great work both in the way he synergizes with Hapatra and in removing creatures with 1 toughness. Second match he played Thalia early, combined with a severe drought of black mana I lost very quickly. Third match went well, I played removal early into a turn 4 tree turn 5 triskadekaphobia. I had blockers and plenty of health to avoid getting to 13 so I calculated it was quite safe, until he played gryf's boon on his biggest creature, the +1 being exactly what he needed to put me at 13 and take me down with him.

Round 2 Vs. RW Exert: 2-0, first match i played Mummies turn 1 and 2 and was able to swing the in a few times, he opted not to block with 1-health creatures for a few turns while I got him to 13 life then played Triskadekaphobia for the turn 5 win. Second round was just overwhelming insect tokens and Westvale Abbey FTW.

Round 3 Vs. White/Blue/Black control: 2-0, took a while to get anything stuck on the field but my removal was sufficient to keep me alive until I could flood tokens. Sided in a pair of Stinging Shots to make the second round go smooth against spirits.

Round 4 Vs. Superfriends Fog: 0-2, aside from some supremely bad draws, this was just a bad matchup for my deck. Multiple fumigates, haze of pollen, gideon, dovin, and tamiyo, it was virtually impossible to get damage in. Sideboard had very few options for dealing with planeswalkers.
