Sideboard

Lets set the mood shall we?

You stand in an open plain, the moon the only light to guide your eyes. Your lungs sting from from dodging the numerous soldiers that would love to have your head. A bright light tears through the twilight of your surroundings and you feel the bite of a blade enter into your right shoulder.

Captain Omarian smiles and approaches the young man who knelled bleeding before him. "You are alone this time, petty thief. Did you really think you could get away from the guard and not face the consequences?"

"I didn't think... you'd be able to catch up to me... with all the ale fat" said Salem revealing a sarcastic, bloody, grin.

"Stuck like a boar and the thief still jests" Omarian turns his head, and nods. Noticing the gesture two men came out from behind a tree, dragging another by their shoulders. "You steal from anyone in this town you steal from me rat!" As if on Que the two men through the black sac off the persons face. Salem gasped and coughed up blood in fear as the person under the hood turned out to be Selene, his twin sister.

"Don't you touch her! she had nothi..." Salem began to stay when his words met the hilt of Omarians sword. "b....bastard!"

"Normally, we would just cut a hand off of a thief, but i feel that wont work with you boy" Omarian squats down to be eye level with Salem "You're stubborn and most likely would continue your thieving just to spite my guard. So, i thought," he said with an evil grin growing on his face, "we slice this pretty little girls neck open!" Salem's eyes bulged with a variety of emotion. Hate, fear, and pain surged through him.

"You touch her i'll kill you! She is a herbalist, she has never done you or your guard harm!" Salem said, his voice rising and fallen with the flood of emotions that were hitting him. He managed to get back on both feet, he figured that he could give one last burst of strength in attempt to free his innocent sister, but as his eyes rose and met hers it was done. "n...i..no." he managed to whisper as his sisters eyes met his. Her tears flowed down her face slowly, her white dressed turned to scarlet red. Both siblings seemed to collapse at the same time.

"This will teach you rat! You will always be Nothi.." Salem exploded into a blood curdling scream, a dark purple glow resounded in his chest. Captain Omarian knew that this couldn't be good for him, but he had men, soldiers. "Stop or ill!" his voice trailed off as his eyes tried to find his men. all of them were trapped. roots from the ground dragging them to an early grave.

"All we wanted... was to be able to eat!" Salem rose to his feet again, his wound no longer bleeding. "She was innocent... she..she... SHE WILL BE YOUR DEATH!" All around the Captain, the world seemed to shift. He couldn't believe his eyes, the little girl, whom a moment ago was dead and bleeding out, stood before him in a red dress, starring at him with coal black eyes.

"Thi...this cant be real, I'm just going crazy!" The Captain wouldn't ever know how true he was. His mind no longer belonged to him. Salem, having his spark awaken upon seeing the death of his sister, now held a power over others minds.

"Omarian, fat Captain of the guard." Said Salem, but to Omerian the voice came from the ghostly form of a murdered little girl. "You're death will be slow. You will forever run around in your mind as my own personal plaything. Slowly I will strip you of your identity. Till you forget your name, till you forget you're even human!

Salem turned around, his sister in his arms as he walks through a portal... never to return to the plain of his birth. Captain Omarian and his men were found the next morning, all hysterical. None of them seemed to know their own names... The only clue to anyone who wasn't present during the time was Omarian's shrieks of terror.

"She wont stop starring! I'm sorry! Be quite!" his voice rang out. Every word he let out his foul mouth was a scream. even gagged he wouldn't stop. Years go by, the Captains throat raw and bloody, cries in his sleep for his torment to end. The captain dies in his sleep, it was not painless.

Salem is a mono-black Planeswalker. His powers manifest much like Itachi Uchiha's from Naruto. i thought it would be cool to think of the user of this deck as a master over his opponents fears. Having his opponents believe that they are in a torture room, or trapped within a realm of creatures made of their insecurities (Silent Hill). He often uses the image of his sister to terrorize his victims. He is not inherently evil, but will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. His sister back. But not as a shambling corpse. but as a young, innocent girl.

I find that a lot of the time im asked, "How can i build this if i don't have money for Liliana of the Veil or Ensnaring Bridge?", well i have some input that might make this build more reasonable. I find that this deck runs a thin line when it comes to what it needs to function. Thoughtseize and Inquisition of Kozilek are absolute must haves. You need the ability to not only make your opponents discard but also get rid of threats to yourself. This being said both will remain despite their pricing.

Liliana of the Veil = Funeral Charm

I strongly believe that Funeral Charm is a great choice if one is looking to replace Liliana of the Veil. The charm allows you to make your opponents discard at instant speed along with being mini removal. Your opponent plays turn one Birds of Paradise? What better way to start a game then to Funeral Charm a Birds of Paradise, am I right?

Ensnaring Bridge = Victim of Night or Unmake

However, Ensnaring Bridge works amazingly in this deck, it does sit at about forty dollars a piece. I find that swapping in creature removal helps, but ultimately wont ever be a great way to "replace" Ensnaring Bridge. I say adding in removal that stays under three to cast would best for a budget version.

If you enjoyed this quick guide, or just like the deck regardless, then be sure to leave a comment or upvote! Both are appreciated! Thanks to those who have already shown support!
